Sorry Kesmit, I already "won" if that's the case Smile

And we go from 11 to 12...

Does anyone know what the longest running topic is? Or have we made history with this one?

Phase IV (1974)

Desert ants suddenly form a collective intelligence and begin to wage war on the desert inhabitants. It is up to two scientists and a stray girl they rescue from the ants to destroy them. But the ants have other ideas.

Wonder why they never took over the rest of the world.Perhaps they made it to Vegas and lost the farm in the casino Big Grin

I was watching the movie "Birthday Girl" starring the lovely Nicole Kidman today. Well, the beginning of the film has this British guy picking up his Russian mail order bride - well anyway one of the first things he says to her is that he has an ant problem.

It made me think of this thread, ants and British guys Big Grin

It was a pretty good movie too - passed the time good enough. What else could I ask for - Nicole Kidman doing a beautiful Russian accent and speaking Russian!

I found a lone black ant in the bathroom yesterday. So I had to hose the area down with spray. I couldn't see any more of them, but heard a riot of tiny shrieks...

One of the greatest ant ventriloquists was Edgar Bergant, with his dummy, Charlie MyrmeCarthy. However, he was not a black ant, he was a caucasian ant.

(The study of ants is called Myrmecology)

The Velvet Ant is not really an ant at all, it is a wasp. Though it has no wings or stinger. It just looks like a great big furry ant.

You love it really, starwolf. Don't even try to deny it Smile Who'd have thought a harmless comment would generate 12 pages of (mostly) ant discussion?

My first thought when I checked out the Chatter section today after having been gone for two weeks was, "My God, that Killer Ant thread is still going on?". Roll Eyes

To keep on topic (and why I got on here)...my apartment is being overrun by little black sugar ants. This happened the same time last year.

I hate ants.

BCW, in response to your question in another thread, Killer Ants did not make it to Cards OnLine. I was tempted, but the column I just sent a couple of days ago is for the issue that comes out in November. I felt surely this thread will be long forgotten by then. The column in the issue that comes out this month was written in June, so it is not in this issue either.

My reasons, many feel this thread is silly and frivolous. They miss the fact, we need silliness and frivolity to survive in a cruel, ugly world. I am pround of my small part in the Killer Ant thread, and I think that everyone who posted here should be also. I am a little surprised this thread did not make it to "Look Who's Talking", but that's the way the ball bounces. The numbers speak for themselves, this thread that would not die has spanned 3 months.

Those of you who feel ants are boring are mistaken. They are amazing animals and we keep learning more facts about them in this thread. That said, whenever i see one of these industrious, marvelous little creatures in my home, I snuff out it's little life with extreme prejudice.

Thanks for keeping the dream of Killer Ants alive BCW, I did take your poll, and think we are better off with no mascot.

Don, it sounds like you're retiring from this topic. And who are these "many" you speak of? Just wait until they have an ant story, they'll be straight over here to tell us about it. However, I'm glad you're still doing your part to stamp out the little blighters (are you adopting starwolf's dance to do this?)

I figure if I ask you questions, then you have to keep posting.

I did actually watch an episode of Father Ted over the weekend when Dougal had a huge pair of binoculars and was looking at the wooden window frames in the parochial house. You could see ants scurrying around (I know this doesn't make sense). Dougal turns around and says "Ted, the ants are back..."
