Is there any way I can take my name off of this? The Mystery box game I set up is not whatever this thing wolfman and Tmelzer are doing.

I feel the same way Barrett - which is why I've not added my name to it either

Confused Aren't you guys overreacting?Confused
From what I understand, Tim is going to send 2 out of 3 boxes to 2 random people who sent him cards; after that these people will send to whoever they want. You are saying that you won't want to participate because 2 boxes will have a 2 weeks delay before "really" entering the game. I am sorry but I don't understand or maybe I am missing something.

My question to you is, why aren't you bothered by this new program? I think you're the one missing something and whether or not I choose to participate has absolutely NO effect on you - in fact, it probably increases your chances, so you should be applauding me Smile

I'm totally fine with him sending out all the boxes to whomever he wants. Or should he be told whom he can send them to?

for some reason an innocent idea such as sharing cards with a mystery twist always ends in minor arguments ( or heated discussions ) Big Grin

Mainly why i have stayed out of this and tend to watch from a distance, with a cup of tea :P

Good ideas though, mystery boxes, hope the boxes prevail and you all get mystery abound Smile

Over_Worked_Mom, I didn't say that it was affecting me. You said that you were not participating because of the rules. I was wondering if I missed something (if I did, thanks for pointing me in the right direction) or if you were just upset by the 2 boxes Tim was going to send to contributors.

If you felt offended by my previous post, I apologize. It was not meant to be rude or anything, I posted it because I didn't understood the reaction of the 3 of you. Once again, sorry.

This current "issue" is really bugging me this morning. I'm really confused on what the proper "rules" of holding contests on this board are. I thought it was up to the person starting something to make the rules.

For instance, ds9erspecialist limited whom could play in his game and most people didn't seem too bothered by that exclusionary rule. Most, but not all.

Perhaps all contests, auctions, gift exchanges, what-not should be killed off so as not to offend anybody?

You know what, you are free to do whatever you want. It's not my game, my contest, or my board and as long as Harris and the Moderators are fine with it, so be it.

I'm with OWM & barobehere on this one, the original boxes had no "rules" other than replace the cards you take with cards of equal value. The fact that it "appears" that some contributors of the new boxes want first pick of them is strange. The concept was/is a great idea, but somebody will take more than they should and others will moan that they never get the box (as happened with the first boxes) and that is the shame of it all.

Best of luck and well done to those who have set these up, i really hope that in 2 years time they are still going strong....but....

Just so everyone is very clear and has all the facts:

NO ONE from the contributors to the US originated boxes (3) asked to be sent the boxes. This is MY choice and mine alone. There will still be one box that goes out into the "wild", and the other two boxes will follow along closely behind.

There was nothing about value in the original rules and if the reciever didn't want to send it on they just had to sign the letter and mail that off.

If you receive the mystery box and DO NOT WANT to mail it on. Then simply sign the letter with your cardtalk id, seal it, and drop it in the mail.

That's extremely offensive. Tim emailed the rules to us already written.

In any case, it's up to him to decide whom to send them to first. He didn't have to post how he was deciding on whom to send them to at all. He could have just as easily decided to do it in alphabetical order. It doesn't matter. Again, the holder of the box/boxes decides whom to send them to first.

The original rule said you could mail them to anyone you wanted. "You can mail it to any cardtalker YOU want to mail it to-anywhere in the world!"

Nobody told barobehere whom to send his boxes to, why should anyone tell Tim and wolfie?

Redemption:

After a few snafu's with ds9erspecialist's contest, we did ask for anyone running a new contest to submit info to us to make sure there wouldn't be problems down the road.

I think what has bothered me is that while yes, I was sent the rules for the new MB's, which I thought were fine with a small change or two, that's all I knew about.

I assumed the new MB's would work as they always had. I had no idea about many of the other details, many of which are leading to these very problems.

So now I'm left with looking like I approved all this this when I didn't know about many of the details. And put in the position of either putting my head in the sand or being a total killjoy, neither of which I like.

It's not too late to fix it though. Tim has already made many of the adjustments I suggested. And I've already talked with Wolfie about his MB. Essentially, so long as you make the MB's available to everyone without stipulations, and without eating up Card Talk resources (i.e. multiple threads/posts), I am fine with it. Let's also give credit where credit is due -- namely to Barrett and Wendi for all of their work on the original MB's. And to those of you who are putting together the new ones for the community.

Let's not get into a war over something that supposed to be a good thing. We have enough bad things and semi-bad things to disagree over.

Redemption - you really need to wind yourself in Man - Part of my point is that others have not taken the spirit of the previous mystery boxes, I'm sure nobody ever thought that a receipient would actually keep the box despite the wording in the letter

Mucked up the editing of the quotes but never mind

That isn't offensive, it is a fact borne out in previous posts, that some contributors have asked for that. The fact may be offensive but I didn't write the fact. This may only be the European boxes that it applies to, if that is so just say so.

I believe the list of rules posted on NSU were very close to those I received by email. I just curse that I asked him if he was sending all the boxes to the same person a couple pages back which is why he sent them to me. lol
