James Gunn Returns to Direct ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3’
Good or bad, this has happened...

After a series of meetings with Walt Disney Pictures honcho Alan Horn, fired director James Gunn will return to the Marvel fold.

Gunn has been re-hired to direct the third installment in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise, the Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana series about misfits who protect outer-space, an individual familiar with the project told Variety.

Gunn was fired last year following the resurfacing of offensive tweets that made light of child sex abuse. The director apologized for the sentiments, which were bubbled up by conservative talking head Mike Cernovich, but was swiftly chopped by family-friendly Disney over the graphic and immature nature of his comments.

The studio never engaged any other director on the project, another insider added. Gunn will also write the screenplay for the third installment, which is undated but slated for 2020. Aside from the notable reversal of a swift decision, Gunn’s rehire presents a conflict of superhero proportions — he’s currently in talks to write a sequel of “Suicide Squad,” the DC Comics villain franchise.

Walt Disney Pictures and reps for Gunn had no immediate comment on the matter.

The two “Guardians” films, released in 2014 and 2017, were strong performers for Disney and Marvel, hauling a combined $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office. In addition to directing, Gunn teamed with Nicole Perlman on the script for the first, which was nominated for a Writers Guild Award, and was the only credited writer on the second. Both movies raised Gunn’s stock as they underlined his ability to make popcorn movies with multiple characters.

Hollywood is trying to walk back it's own mantras of "zero tolerance" and "all victims must be believed" because too many people came up tainted by their new rules, including some popular people. Gunn was one person that many co-workers supported and he was making money for Disney. It's not surprising that they didn't take long to hit the re-set button for him, while others will remain in limbo and still others are waiting to be called out.

It's all hypocrisy, no matter which way it breaks. At least their kids get to go to good schools. Big Grin

Before you know it, Kevin Spacey and Harvey Weinstein will be back making films.

Maybe not the latter, but possibly the former.

Hollywood will say that they believe in forgiveness and redemption, and giving people "second chances", despite what they have done.

Unless you are Mel Gibson. Razz I think the double standard has been the most fun to watch through all of this.

The worst thing for this band of narcissists is to own a device that allows them to spew their unchecked thoughts out to thousands of people at one time.

Yes, aside from "Expendables 3" in 2014 and "Daddy's Home 2" in 2017, Mel Gibson's recent movie work has been mostly action fare that seems to go straight to RedBox at the supermarket.

However, he is 63 years old, so perhaps his leading man days are behind him.

He seems to be on the same trajectory as Pierce Brosnan and Kevin Costner, both guys his age.

I don't think Mr. Spacey will be making a comeback anytime soon. See below
