Has Danny Boyle directed previous Bond films?

Honestly surprised Craig returned to reprise his role. Though he voiced his opinions on being over and beyond the role?

I think it's definitely time for him to hand in his number and pass it on to a fresh face.

No, Boyle has not directed prior Bond films.

Reportedly, Daniel is getting 25 M for Bond 25 and a cut of the profits, which could make him 100 M.

Based upon that, it is no surprise that he would come back. For that money, wouldn't you ?

This paycheck means that he's getting more than Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, for his films

Would be nuts not too. Plus with a baby on the way it means he could officially 'retire' to focus on family life.

Danny Boyle is no longer directing the new film.

This probably means that there will be no Bond film in 2019, that it will be delayed until 2020

Never in the history of the franchise did they have a situation where they got a director at the last minute before filming began. They always had someone lined up way in advance.

Didn't Idris Elba make some sort of cryptic tweet about possibly playing Bond last week? Can't see what that has to do with Boyle though.

I think they'll pick up a director in time for the planned filming schedule. Boyle seems too independent minded for Bond, which has always been tightly controlled by the producers. As long as they have Craig and a script, someone can direct it.

How about Ron Howard? He seems to be the go-to guy for creative differences. Just kidding. Big Grin

Maybe Daniel Craig himself can direct it ? Smile

Someone suggested bringing back Martin Campbell, who did Casino Royale and GoldenEye, even though he is now 75 years old. He recently did that film with Pierce Brosnan and Jackie Chan, The Foreigner, which wasn't a big hit in the U.S., but it did well worldwide.

Now they're saying that he left because he disagreed with Craig on the casting of the villain, that Boyle wanted someone who DC did not like.

And another story is that the producers didn't like the script for the film, authored by Boyle's frequent collaborator

Very telling that Daniel Craig was named specifically in the announcement with the producers that they had binned off Danny Boyle. Never have the producers allowed the Bond actor to exercise so much creative control. I recently read they allowed him to pick each Bond girl co-star since Casino Royale.

Still, not a big Boyle fan anyway.

Odd that it has happened at all though. The producers (Barbara Broccoli & Michael G. Wilson) make the Bond films they want to make. That is well known. The director is always just a 'gun for hire' no matter how much of an auteur the director believes themselves to be.
*cough* Sam Mendes *cough*

Why hire a directer who wouldn't do as he was told, and why work for these producers if you want creative freedom?

Probably more years to wait now for Bond 25.

Due to the delay in Bond 25 getting started, Daniel Craig has moved on, and is signed to start filming "Knives Out" in November

Given this, it seems unlikely that Bond 25 will be finished for 2019

They just announced that Bond 25 will be released in February 2020--the first time ever a Bond film has been released in that month; it's always been the summer, fall or December

And the new director is Cary Fukunaga

Now they are saying there are more script problems, and so the film's release is being delayed until April 2020...

Guess I am not surprised by all of this. This is one Bond release that you don't want to suck. I think Spectre was my least favorite of the recent films. As much as I love Christoph Waltz I think he bombed as a JB villain.

I am glad that Craig will at least finish his time as James on number 25. It helps with my random outbreaks of OCD.

Here in the UK we were told that details would be announced at lunchtime although the BBC website shows the following:-

"The cast of the 25th official James Bond film is expected to be revealed at its launch on Thursday, along with more key details about the movie.

The event will be held at "one of 007's most iconic locations" and will be streamed on social media at 13:10 BST.

If it follows the pattern of previous launches, the title of the film will be revealed as well as the identities of the main cast members.

We know Daniel Craig will return as 007 and the release is set for April 2020."

amongst other stuff.

regards

John

Here is the news, as of this morning. No title yet, but the plot is revealed, along with which actors are returning:

Looks like Felix Leiter is back. We have not seen him since "Quantum of Solace" (2008)
