the thing with that dis68 is that does jack have a regeneration ability? And does he see the doctor again? Hence why Boe keeps saying old friend.
If he can regenerate maybe he can choose not too like the master, which i never knew could happen. I liked the music bit with the master at the beginning just because, like in Dr Who Confidential he is like a child who has everything and so has fun every day Also i take it the masters companion picked up his ring, any significance? I missed the flash gordon reference. But its set up for a very interesting christmas special. |

One of the worst kept secrets has now been confirmed by the Beeb - Kylie IS going to have a 'major role' in the Christmas Special, "Voyage of the Damned".

I hope Dr Who dosen't end up as a celebrity graveyard as it did during Sylvester McCoys tenure. I know Kylie is still a NAME, but I can't help this nagging feeling... ____________________ My other hobby is just as expensive! |

I doubt it, i mean you do have the odd famous comedian or actor in the past 3 new series, but no one really famous.
I think as its a period episode they will use her as a singer, and who could pull off a good singer from the early 1900s |

The buzz is that Kylie may be appearing as a waitress ( though at this stage that could just be another misdirection by the Dr Who production team

This today on the BBC news site:
Tate to be Doctor's new companion Comedian Catherine Tate is to play Doctor Who's new companion, reprising her role from the 2006 Christmas special, the BBC has announced. She will join David Tennant for the complete 13-week run of the new series of Doctor Who, which is due to begin filming in Cardiff later this month. Freema Agyeman, who played the Doctor's companion Martha Jones in the third series, will return mid-series. Kylie Minogue will be starring in this year's Christmas special. Tate will be returning to her role as Donna, the runaway bride who found herself transported into the Tardis as she prepared for her wedding on Christmas Eve. The episode, broadcast on BBC One on Christmas Day, attracted an audience of 9.4 million. Donna was invited by the Doctor to travel with him at the end of the episode, but the invitation was declined at the time. We are delighted that one of Britain's greatest talents has agreed to join us for the fourth series Russell T Davies Tate was asked if she would like to become the Doctor's new companion at the press screening of the Christmas episode to which she replied, "I would love to, but no one has asked!" Doctor Who's executive producer and head writer, Russell T Davies described Tate as an "absolute star" in The Runaway Bride episode. "We are delighted that one of Britain's greatest talents has agreed to join us for the fourth series," he said. "Viewers can expect more ambitious storylines and a whole host of guest stars in 2008." Catherine Tate said: "I am delighted to be returning to Doctor Who. "I had a blast last Christmas and look forward to travelling again through time and space with that nice man from Gallifrey." Agyeman, 28, is to play Martha Jones in three episodes of spin-off show Torchwood, which producers have said will "expand" her character. She replaced Billie Piper, who left at the end of the second series. The fourth series of Doctor Who is due to debut on BBC One in Spring 2008. A Christmas special starring David Tennant and Kylie Minogue will be screened on Christmas Day 2007. ____________________ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If faced with a difficult choice/decision, Remember this - WWKD. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Never give up - NEVER surrender |

On a personal level I don't like the idea of Catherine Tate being the new assistant. This, IMO, is the BBC and it's Celebrity obsession going one step too far. It's not so bad doing a Christmas Special with a few Celebs in, but not a whole series.
I thouhgt Freema did very well in her first series. |

I think catherine tate was a very good addition at christmas and the fact she didn't fall in love with the Doctor like the last two will lead to some interesting stories.
I especially like her statement
They shouldnt have had martha fall for the Doctor again. Been there done that with Rose. |

Agree with Neil about her performance last christmas
That is almost exactly what we had at the start with Martha ( feisty and self-reliant ) but then the storylines turned her character to the unrequited love Rose-lite mode until Human Nature/Family of Blood where the original Martha-character came back and the angry responses when she put her family first in Sound of Drums really made her character stand out and shake off the ghost of Rose |

I didn't think much of the news at first- while I enjoyed the character of Donna, I really don't like Catherine Tate!
Having thought about it though, I think a familiar face is best- they have already gone through so many main cast members in a few series'! ____________________ *formerly Kimberley M * What makes a girl happy? Flowers, romance, diamonds...... oh and cards too ;-) |

I think it will be great to have Donna back, that Doctor needs a good slap now and again.
As for Kylie. On the negative side i did not like The Master, thought it was all too over the top, not like the Master of old. ____________________ Come, it is time for you to keep your appointment with The Wicker Man. |

I've had a little time to think about this and I've revised my opinion a little.
It all depends on which Catherine Tate we get - if we get the serious actor Tate, who moves the Donna character on from the broad brushstrokes seen in "The Runaway Bride", (and it's really going to need someone like Stephen Moffatt to do that well!) then the 4th season could be really, really good (especially once Martha returns) If, however, it's the Tate of the comedy series, then (as Private Frazer in "Dad's Army" often said) "We're Doomed, Doomed, I tell, ye, Doomed." Only time will tell which Catherine Tate we get but I'd of prefered if they had stayed with Martha as the companion, Freema did an excellent job of replacing Billie IMO.

it seems alot of people around the intermaweb are confused.
Catherine Tate is her name. There is a comedy show with her in. Called the same. Doesnt mean we will have 'Bovvered' girl running around the tardis as i feel sure the Doctor would kick her out the door into a black hole, or leave her on some distant planet. Look at the actor not the characters. |

I am and that is the point - there are two types of characters that Tate plays - the comedy ones (into which category I would include Donna as seen in The Runaway Bride) and the serious types (as seen in Bleak House etc.)
Please don't assume that people posting here cannot differentiate between the actress and the characters she plays. I for one AM looking at the actor and the style she uses, and unless the Donna character is developed (both my the writers and by Ms Tate herself) beyond the one-note portrayal in the Christmas special, then I for one will be seriously disapointed. Don't get me wrong im not saying that people cant tell the two apart.
Just it seems that people are saying no, and not really giving a reason like you and others have, based on one episode in Dr Who and other series. |

Catherine Tate reprising her role could be a good thing, she was very good in the Runaway Bride. We should also assume that her character will develop much as Martha did. As to what I'll feel like after 13 weeks of Donna...ask me this time next year.
The jury's out. The proof of the pudding, etc, etc. ____________________ My other hobby is just as expensive! |
