Here in michigan the place i go is $8.50 for an adult.Popcorn is $5.10 for a small bag.I think it's getting a little out of hand espically if you have kids. Here the cutoff age is 11 years after that your an adult. They have a bring you own bucket on tuesdays where they will fill it up for .50.I had my friend run down to target and he came back with a mop bucket so the 4 of us never ran out Smile So how much is it in your neck of the woods?

Jebus! that seems expensive! again two words...Orange wednesday! If you have an Orange mobile phone just txtx FILM to 241 and they will give you a code, go in on a Wednesday and use the code to get a free ticket! buy one get one free. Tickets at Showcase in Leeds are £6.50 which is a bit here and there, food though is insane! last night i got a regular sweet popcorn and a bag of malteasers...£6.00!! it would have been more for a drink, but luckily i wasn't in need of one.
I could easily spend £30 in one night at the cinema for me and my gf! crazy eh?

The multiscreen in Basildon is £7.50 for a 'regular' seat (roughly $15)
I don't bother with popcorn - it's overpriced regardless, but I saw staff refilling the popcorn hopper one day, and they just tipped a big sack of readymade popcorn on top of the stuff that was already there - if this is standard practise, I hate to think how long that stuff at the bottom has been there...

In Belgium we pay 8,50 € (6-7£ or 13$)

Which I think is expensive. But is you like to go to the movies and you want excellent sound and digital projections it's the best you can do.

I think it's either $11.75 or $12.00 in Manhattan. I haven't been to a movie since I AM LEGEND though.

5.50 for matinee showings (we never go at night which is 7.50).
My wife, son, and I share the #3 combo of a 44oz drink and a medium bag of popcorn for 10.00.
1 movie will cost the three of us 26.50.

Adult prices for Iron Man were $8. I don't get any popcorn, etc., at the movies, it's incredibly overpriced. I don't go very often.

One word....matinee. We usually go to the last matinee movie before full pricing begins for the evening shows. Then we have dinner afterward. So we see the same movie and save a few dollars.

I was once told that the general rule-of-thumb for theaters is that the ticket price pays for the cost of the theater getting the movie. The money from concessions is where the theater makes their money.

Isn't if odd that we're squawking over $4 per gallon for gasoline, yet we fork over $3 for a large soft drink?

Until a few years ago, we used to go to the drive-in to see movies. The cost was less than seeing one movie in a theater, and we got to see TWO movies. And we could take in all the food we wanted in our car, so we would stop and get a pizza or something beforehand. Man, I miss our drive-in!

Just saw The Incredible Hulk in Luton and the ticket cost £6.20 (approx $12)
The killer is the extras.
a small tray of nachos cost £3.50 (nearly $7) and a 500ml bottle of water cost an amazing £1.90. Eek Boots sell the same for 65p

At Luton they have now started searching bags to make sure you do not take in any consumables not bought in the theatre Lobby.

Isn't there some gov body to regulate such blatant over-charging

Unfortunately for me, there's no such thing as matinee prices in NYC. It's all FULL PRICE Frown

We go to the Showcase cinema in Dudley.

We allways go on Wednesday as it is 2 for 1 on tickets.
A ticket is £5 i think so that is £2.50 each.

We never buy stuff at the cinema as it is a complete rip off. We allways take our own food and drink in with us.

I used to do that. I usually got a Boots Meal Deal. But the Galaxy Luton has put a stop to taking food & drink in Shake Head

We went to a "Free" movie on Tuesday to see March of the Penguins and it cost for the four of us $21. That was 2 sodas, a large popcorn and a bottle of water. No tickets, nothing else - see why we don't go all too often??

I never buy anything at the movie theatre and I don't sneak in anything either. I rather watch the movie than eat through it and everthing they sell seems so unhealthy.

The only thing I used to eat was the popcorn and then a friend who was a manager at a theatre told me they premake the popcorn beforehand and store it in garbage bags. That grossed me out so now it's good eating after the movie. Big Grin

Free! I try to go to screenings as much as possible. I saw the Incredible Hulk and Get Smart a couple of days before the actual release and next week is either Hancock or Wanted. One of the perks of living in LA I guess. If not, then I get 2 tickets for 15 at Costco.

Here in Vancouver (Canada) it costs $12 just for the ticket. The prices for the usual theatre snacks are $6 for a large popcorn (50 cents extra if you want real butter), $5 for a large pop, $3.50 for a large candy. The big theatres here also have other food like KFC, Pizza Hut, NY Fries, Berger King and others, an Individual Pizza Hut Pizza is only $4.75 and a large NY Fries with gravy is about $5. Those are much better and cheaper than the popcorn Roll Eyes
