While it's been filming for a few months, Paramount just announced that it's now being put off from Summer 2019 to Summer 2020, to work on the special effects.

Now there appears to be some controversy on this. Some have said that Tom Cruise altered his leather jacket for the new movie, to remove the flags of Japan and Taiwan on the back (which were in the 1986 film)

Reportedly, a Chinese company is a major investor in the movie, and they might be offended by the use of the 2 flags and any implications of militarism...
