After the last three dead movies I watched .

Land of dead
Dawn of Dead remake
Day of dead remake

I had given up hope on the Genre as I thought they were all poor showings.. Then while at Wal Mart I picked up Diary of the Dead and It's Romero getting back to his roots with a more indy film and It put my faith back into the genre that good movies can still be made. Anyone else see this yet?

The coolest part was the voices on the news and radio in the background were voiced by people like Stephen King, Wes Craven, Simon Pegg and Guillermo del Toro among others. I would recommend this to any zombie or Romero movie fans

I actually prefer the Dawn Of The Dead remake to the original, possibly the best remake out there anyways. However, I agree that LotD & DotD were terrible.

I might have to watch this one though, I enjoy the camera held style movies as it gives that degree of realism - making it much more scarier as a viewer.

Well I've always thought the original Dawn of the Dead was a terrific movie and I didn't care for the remake at all, but I think it depends on when you saw the movies.

If you never saw the original before and see it today it suffers by comparison in terms of make up and effects and so forth. It was done cheap and looks cheesey. The acting is not that great either. But if you saw it when it first came out and it was still an original concept not already done to death, then you remember it fondly. The remake was technically much better, but there was nothing about it that made it special for me.

Also, as an afterthought, the remake ended leaving no doubt that no one was going to survive, so it was pretty depressing. The original had a vague ending with the two people left choosing not to give up and flying away from the mall. What you thought happened to them next was up to the viewer. It was more optimistic in regard to the human spirit.

Diary is not a continuation of Romeros other movies, it starts from scratch ..

The premise without spoiling is a group of college kids are filming a horror movie in the woods when the dead start killing, The movie is filmed with their camera documenatary style. There are news feeds and internet feeds cut in..

The extras are fun to watch as they have diaries or confessionals from the kids as they go along and you can see their progression from disbelief to acceptance..

I also liked the original dawn over the remake, The whole fast moving zombies was a turn off(they even take a shot at that in Diary of the Dead) and it lost it's campy feeling..

Great synopsis of the early days...... Thumb Up Remakes tend to lose the message I think. Romero's use of the Mall (symbolism) while death clawed its way inside was so profound that it was just impossible to walk away from the original without an impact. The remake didnt make you think...you just walked away saying..."That was kinda cool"

That's how he uses the media and internet in this one, the funny thing was in an interview he said that they had to hurry up and get it out before the technology was outdated Big Grin I watched it again last night and Quenton Terentino(sp) lent his voice to the movie also.. The question she asks at the end after showing all the footage really makes you think(and I won't spoil it) Smokin'

I watched DotD earlier today, and I thought it was very poor. The acting (especially the main girl), the script and the execution was all wrong. I liked the concept behind the movie, and the message it was putting out about the media, but the narration over the tape was really patronising and overplayed. I prefer subtle messages during the film, not really obvious "spoon fed" ones. You can tell that Romero had a vision for the film, yet I get the feeling that the producers/studios were the ones behind dumbing it down.

I found a lot of the scenes & lines cliched, which I come to expect with zombie movies, but I expect something more unique from Romero. I did enjoy the opening scene, although the camera man ruins it right at the end with his overacting. The mummy guy was funny, actually there were quite a few funny bits in the movie (some were intentional Razz ).

A couple of things that nerked me.

1) The main girl recieved a text message off her little brother saying he and the family were camping in the woods. Erm, why didn't she phone her brother in the first place when she was panicing about her family? Also, why didn't she phone him or at least text him back when he texted her to let her know they were ok??

2) The scene in the house with the old couple that were protecting their family. Where did that footage come from? I assumed it was a camera fixed to someones helmet, but some of the footage came from angles were there were no people to film it.

Another thing that I disliked, but I also disliked about Cloverfield, is that with these hand held camera style movies they come up with the lamest excuses for having the camera around to film key scenes. Such as when the cameraman filmed the arguements between himself and the main girl, etc..
