True, but I'm thinking it was done more as an homage to it rather than a rip off.

The difference between a homage and a rip off is that only "serious" film makers have the nerve to call it a homage. Wink

lol Big Grin

Seriously though... since they made that caption a "virtual" doll it seems to close to not have been intentional. If it had been something totally different I'd have said that it was a rip off. Like this...

Joss Whedon's sci-fi Dollhouse premiered Friday, and the news isn't good: Overnight ratings were the worst in the show's history. Translated: If you like it, you'd better watch it while you can.

The half-hour numbers for Dollhouse among adults 18-49 and 18-34, according to TV by the Numbers (rating/share, audience):
    9-9:30 p.m.: 1.0, 1.0, 2.698 million
    9:30-10 p.m.: 1.0, 1.0 2.427 million

So how bad was it? Here's a roundup of analysis:
"barely registered with live viewers" --TV Wrap

"The show's lowest-ever audience last night" --Digital Spy

"Dollhouse went right back to where it left off: as the lowest-rated show on a major broadcast network" --The Live Feed

"The second season launch of Dollhouse actually [lost] viewers from Brothers, plummeting to its lowest ratings to date" --HitFix

It's kind of too bad. We like Whedon and we like what he's doing with the show: deepening the mythology, introducing some complex character interactions and muddling the motives of his heroes in ways that you don't usually see in prime-time drama. Maybe that's the problem?

Dollhouse airs Fridays at 9 p.m., at least for the time being.

Rule of thumb - if it doesn't suck, it will get canceled. I think Whedon should pitch his shows to cable networks only, going forward.

Not surprised at the ratings, its on the worst viewing night of the week and Medium has been moved to the same time slot. Also the show is barely being promoted.

I watched a few episodes last year and gave up on it. Some people said it got a lot better afterwards, but I think it took too long to develop and now no one is interested in the complex story line.

Dollhouse lives! New DVR numbers keep it alive

The live ratings for Fox's Dollhouse had leveled off as of the third episode, which aired Friday, but the good news for fans is that new numbers from DVRs are great, and because of that Fox has decided to air all of the 13 episodes that have been ordered for this season so far.

Who expected that??

Here's the scoop: The audience for Joss Whedon's show jumped by more than half when factoring in the people who watched it later on DVRs, according to The Hollywood Reporter:
"We're going to run all the episodes," Fox scheduling chief Preston Beckman said. "We're not saying we're happy with those numbers, or accept them, but we don't have to overreact."
Premiere-week DVR data released Monday showed that the second-season "Dollhouse" debut climbed 50% from its very modest base of a 1.0 rating in the adults 18-49 demo. Beckman said DVR results have played a role in the show's fate, though he wasn't surprised by the new numbers.

"It's one of the reasons that we brought 'Dollhouse' back; we knew it was DVR-friendly," Beckman said. "Hopefully we'll see the overnight ratings increase from week to week. With some shows, you have to look at the bigger picture."

Another big surprise? They're even contemplating a third season! Fox says it will decide whether to keep the show going after the second season ends. Of course, they still have to decide whether to order the "back nine" episodes of the current season to make up a full 22.

Whedon says the 13th hour will be designed to wrap the series if it's canceled.
"We'll definitely have closure but will leave some doors open," said Whedon, who's shooting the eighth episode.

I figured the "unaired" episode from season 1 was the final episode and would just air as the series finale..

I can't see Eliza in the role for the same reason. But in the comics Wolverine is shorter than Jean Grey and comic fans came around to Hugh Jackman playing him.

Very true, but they weren't too fond of Cyclops being pretty average height as he was always much bigger in the comics.

Why am I not surprised? Big Grin

Fox has botched up many of their shows and I don't think that their scheduling or advertising did Dollhouse any favors.

Having said that, Dollhouse was a pretty bad mess right from the start. It may have had potential as an idea, and some people felt it was getting better, but I wouldn't know. I quit watching after the fourth episode because the acting was awful and I didn't know what kind of characters I was supposed to be watching.

You had to be a die hard Joss or Eliza fan to try sticking with this one.
