Best news in a long time
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8280734.stm

I would guess the long wait would be because the actors are committed to other projects. I heard several people asking about the show at the BBC America stand at SDCC (although an ITV show) and low and behold, the BBC is helping with funding.

I think this is a good thing, a tv station responding to the will of the viewers, does not happen often.

The only strange thing is that half way through the new series they are going to switch it all to a digital channel that hardly anybody can get, whats that all about.

Series 4 will be on ITV, series 5 will be shown FIRST on Watch then ITV. I am assuming that the owners of watch are part funding and part of the deal is that they show Series 5 first

Best place for it Big Grin However, with the digital switch over now in full swing I doubt if it will be out of reach for too long. Watch is already available through both Sky and Virgin Media and by the time this actually gets aired it might even have sneaked onto Freeview so pretty much everyone will have access to it.

Don't get me wrong, the idea behind the series wasn't a bad one it's just the implementation that leaves a lot to be desired. By giving the series the title 'Primeval' they immediately painted themselves into a corner. Viewers will expect to see dinosaurs and other monsters every week which makes for very limited plots, as happened. The idea of strange anomolies that give access to Earth in the distant past and future was a good one. It's just a shame that they fixed it so that all you could find in either direction were prehistoric and/or weird monsters Twak

EVERYONE can get Sky. Whether they can afford or want it is a different matter.

What would you have in it's place? Another hour of X Factor?

I reading something before about this and it said that BBC Worldwide are part owners of UKTV of which Watch is one of there channels.

Cool! That's good news. I hope we'll get it here in the States eventually. Hopefully it'll be back on BBC America.

I'm pretty sure it will be on BBC America - guess who owns that station? Big Grin

Interestingly, on the Guardian media podcast today, they were talking about the Primeval deal and suggested that it actually did better than Doctor Who in international markets...

The show did well internationally, but season three was dreadful, I gave up halfway in it was just unwatchable tripe. It also did a lot better because it was sold at a much lower price than Doctor Who which the BBC wanted (rightly) a good deal of money for. I don't think it has anything to do with the actors being committed to other projects as much as starting up production again after cancellation can take some time. They will no doubt be on a reduced budget, and if you read it you will see that the "two seasons" are really nothing of the sort, it's 13 episodes, (one season) split over two years. Basic production cost have been halved right off the start line. I hope the show gets back to the season 2 style....

I haven't seen the 3rd season yet, but I've seen it's out on dvd. Though I'm not to thrilled by the reviews, but I will get around to watching it.

Glad there'll be more episodes though.

Glad also, I liked the show but don't see what people like about Doctor Who..

Shows coming back are very rare and only happened a few times here in the US.. The fans brought Jericho back for half a season and Directv agreed to fund part(or all) of friday night lights but got the rights to air it before it's shown on regular tv..
