Hi all, this topic has been interesting on other bulletin boards I check out and thought it would be fun to hear from the good people here!

So, as the title asks, What are your latest three DVDs? Feel free to include your review/grade/impressions of the DVDs. Also, please feel free to update this thread with new DVDs from time to time. Hopefully we can all get some new ideas for movies to rent/buy from this thread. Smile

I will start us off:

Matewan - One of my alltime favorite movies. Fantastic performances from David Strathairn, Chris Cooper and James Earl Jones. Kevin Tighe (Roy DeSoto from the old "Emergency" show) plays one of the most memorable movie villains I have ever seen in this movie.

American Splendor - Wonderfully odd and quirky biopic of comic book writer Harvey Pekar. Paul Giamatti (one of my favorite actors)does a stupendous job in the lead role.

Whale Rider - another favorite of mine I have seen several times. I love the haunting musical score and the quietly powerful acting of Keisha Castle-Hughes are unforgettable. It is such a touching story about growing pains that really packs a wallop. The photography is outstanding.

This is an excellent idea for a thread! The last 3 DVD's I watched are:

1) Working Girl - I watched this for the first time last night and absolutely loved it. I enjoy movies about the underdog overthowing the big guns, and how if you want to get far in life you need to act on your dreams now as "they won't come to you". Also you gotta love all that big hair! Joan Cusack looks like a lion in every scene, lol.

*****

2) Naked Gun 2 1/2 - Not as good as the other 2 but it still has its moments. I think the problem is the start as it is so dreary, it doesn't take off until the middle. Leslie Nielson has the best comedy timing, he cracks me up just looking at him.

***1/2 Big Grin

3) Alive - Hmmm, not too sure about this one. I like the aspect of everybody coming together in a crisis, but still having their conflicts at the same time. However, some of the acting is terrible and it ruins the realness of the disaster.

This is kinda boring but the last 3 DVD's I watched were:

Star Wars: Unaltered Theatrical Version

Empire Strikes Back: Unaltered Theatrical Version

AND
.
.
.
.
.
Howard the Duck!

No just kidding, number 3 was Return of the Jedi: Unaltered Theatrical Version

The unaltered versions on the bonus discs on the most recent Trilogy DVD release should really have been treated with more respect. They should have been cleaned up and at the very least been given an anamorphic transfer. As it is, they showed their age a little more and it felt more like you were watching a 30 year old movie.

Eaten Alive. Tobe Hooper.

Great film with a demented performance by Neville Brand who kills his hotel guests and feeds them to his pet crocodile.

.............................................

Supernova. James Spader & Angela Bassett.

Sci-fi movie i had not come across before. Not bad, nothing great but worth a watch.

..................................................

Pearl Harbour. Ben Afflek & Kate Beckinsale.

This movie was rubbished by every critic when it came out and put me off watching it. I would like to say that i enjoyed it and thought it far better than i had been led to believe.
The actual footage of the attack was superb.

Not as good as Tora, Tora, Tora but you should still go watch it.

Remember I have a 6 year old, so

Curious George. I enjoyed it. A lot of kids movies stink but this was a pleasent 90 minutes.

Charlie and the chocolate Factory. My son's favorite film. I still like the Gene Wilder version better.

Undertaking Betty. This was a great British film. Doc Oct from Spider-man 2 starts(Forgot his name) Christopher Walken, Naomi Watts star in this comedy. Really funny.

Since I am home with back surgery, I have plenty of time to watch tv and dvd's, thanks to Blockbuster sending them to me in the mail. So, over the last couple days it was:

1.) The Matador with Pierce Brosnan
2.) Jarhead-I was not impressed.
3.) X-Men 3 which was bought with the cards of course.

Already love this topic Clap I love all kind of movies, I mean it!

  • Lanse da men (aka Blue Gate Crossing)
A very touching Taiwan movie about adolescence and the discovery of a young girl's gay nature.

  • First Knight
I like Richard Gere's soft side of Lancelot. (actually I needed a few captures of Alexis Denisof Big Grin)

  • Cold mountain
I love to watch movies without knowing nothing (saw Scream in theaters like that) or very little about it. So with the name of the three main actors in mind, and the word 'Romance' that I had spotted, I watched my romantic movie that started with the civil war! Very nice movie indeed, I was just expecting less blood Big Grin

And The Birds, Les girls... and that's all for yesterday Big Grin
