Joker is only 13 M away from grossing 1 billion worldwide.

And it cost only 55 M to make, allegedly

What a wise investment for Warner Bros., its biggest hit of 2019

And what's even more incredible is it's going to make that $1 billion without being released in China. Eek This film has had amazing legs.

It's made over 315 M in the U.S. so far, but by the end of the year, it will probably end up in 9th place, as Disney had so many bigger hits.

Currently it is # 7, but Star Wars and Frozen 2 are coming.

You have to wonder with over 673M internationally, what foreign countries think life looks like in the USA after seeing The Joker. Big Grin I go back to watching The Warriors in the movies and cracking up with some of the outlandish gang scenes in the New York subway. I wondered if the tourists of Ohio expected to see that in Times Square.

And this was at a time when you could see all sorts of things in the subway, but no, not even close to The Warriors gangs. Anyway, I guess my point is, this stuff was way overdone and I hope people know it.

Not that I didn't think the gang activity was silly but New York in 79? The sets were probably pretty accurate. I used to play video and pinball (video actually being strategic light placing application) games in a train station in Oceanside California back in 77 and it didn't look much different. Wink They really didn't start cleaning up NYC until after the film was released.

The Warriors, still one of my favorite movies!! I remember watching as a kid the news about the "controversy" it was causing. Ahhh! the future of news media. A few theaters had problems and it turned into National news.

It's funny you should mention that as we were talking about it the other day. I have never been to America so only know what i see in movies and on the news. I was dragged up in the 70's on films like Death Wish, French Connection, The Warriors etc, 42nd street and the Porno Grindhouse cinemas, Central Park was somewhere you just did not go to unless you wanted to get mugged.

I bet i would be really disapointed if i went now and none of it existed anymore, if it ever did.

If you go to Times Square, some costumed cartoon character will try to scam you for a picture. If you go to Central Park after midnight you might not get mugged, but I wouldn't try it. The subways and the streets are not as safe as they were after everything got cleaned up because we now have a progressive Democratic administration and homelessness and quality of life crimes have gone way up, despite the published statistics.

By in large tourists still have a great time in NYC, but they may not want to live there, and native New Yorkers just shrug and go to work. It's not as bad or as good as you see in movies, just like every place I guess.

I see plenty of memes and such about what life in the military supposedly is. I've been retired for nearly 15 years and I still see descriptions that are easily 40 or 50 years old.

Last time I was in NYC was back in the 90's and people were nice. The cab ride was interesting but I never felt even the slightest concern that I was in any sort of danger. ;-)

Another thing about Joker that I wasn't aware of, once it crosses $1 billion globally it will be the first ever R-rated film to do so.

As a group, I think this is probably the worst bunch of depressing and moralizing films the Academy Awards have ever come up with at one time.

At least Joker had a wide release and made a good amount of money. To a lesser degree so did Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, which also took itself less seriously. The rest of the major nominees are from movies that were barely seen in theatres by anyone.

I've seen four of the Best Picture nominees, and one I refuse to see. Maybe I'll be able to rent the others before the awards. In my exalted, excuse me, I mean extremely humble opinion, the Oscar ceremony has been going downhill for the last few years.

Parasite or Jojo Rabbit? I won't be seeing either one.

Apparently the parties have agreed to Joker 2. Joaquin Phoenix and the director are on board and the script has been written.

I think this one is pretty controversial. With the passage of time many people have decided that Joker was a lousy concept for a movie. Not a lousy movie necessarily, but a lousy concept for a movie. It accomplished what Todd Phillips wanted, but would anyone really sit through it twice?

Guess we'll find out if it still has fans, but it's a different time, and I don't know how much praise the original would get if it were opening up now.

The other thing is that Joaquin Phoenix, being the method actor that he is, supposedly drove himself pretty nuts filming Joker. Why he would feel the need to come back to such a self-destructive role is beyond me.

Interesting you say that, I just realized I have not re-watched it since I saw it in the theater.
