I also have a day job (So does Katie, I don't know WHERE she gets all that energy!)

Why aren't all of my cards 'masterpieces'? Because I enjoy the livliness of my sketches. My pencil cards have a lot more life than my inks and colours, but they get thrown into the 'I didn't pull a colour caaaaaard' pile.

Now I don't do a few scribbles on a card and pull it a day, but the next time you guys pull something YOU think isn't finished, it doesn't mean the artist didn't think it was. Smile

I love you, Amy. Marry me.

I love that perspective! For me pencil sketches are a lot more "alive" than when someone adds color. For the most part, the sketch artists use color effectively, but some of the sketches that I have pulled have color blobbed over some beautiful pencil lines because it had to be a color sketch. I try to accept each sketch as a finished product, whether it has color or not.

In the end, my philosophy tends to be: don't be a backseat sketch artist!

Hey guys, negative comments about some of the sketch cards included in the sets isn't being directed at the artists who grace us with their presence on this board.
I'm sorry if you get that feeling and I do realize that every once in awhile general statements are made that really shouldn't.
The fact that you guys come to the board shows that you do indeed take your work seriously and that you are looking for feedback, otherwise you would just knock-off sketches one right after the other without caring if fans love them or not.
I've been fortunate enough to pull sketches by Allison, Amy, and Katie and I been pleased with all of them. Each of you have your own style and it doesn't matter what medium you chose to work with the quality and effort is always appearent.

Keep up the good work and remember, you can't please everyone all of the time, as long as you're happy with what you did that is what matters.

Couldn't have said it better myselfWink When the opportunity was initially presented, I said no to this set because I didn't want to rush to crank out X amount of cards in a deadline that was a bit tight for me. Sure, the cards would've turned out ok, but not to my personal standards. Having watched all of Season 1, it was a bit disappointing to say no, so I'm happy to be on board now. And since I'm doing 56 cards, I'm really relieved to have a bit more time to spend on each one.

Cynthia

I just want to add to something that Arvin said a couple posts back...

I didn't say I wanted artist pay increased because I think it will result in more quality sketches, I just want to see these people that put so much time into these sets a little better compinsated is all.

[Commence butt kissing] That being said, Allison, Cynthia, Katie, and Amy...anything I ever say about the quality of the sketches isn't going to be directed towards you...it is directed towards some of the artists who don't take the time to frequent boards and pump out cards that really should not be in $50+ boxes. You guys all do great work and each have very distict styles and I have been lucky enough to pull something from all of you...heck, one of you was my secret santa on another board and my little gollum still sits atop my Mac monitor. Just relax.

You are all talented artists who care about your work & obviously care about what other people think of your work too. That much is obvious or you all wouldn't have contributed to this forum.

If you do your best it will show - in fact it already does.

Keep up the good work. You have a skill and an eye that most of us are envious of. We love it when you post your work on Card Talk as we can look at proper art that most of the world will unfortunately never see. That is their loss. Please don't ever stop doing what you do.

Agreed.

I'm new to sketch cards, and only have a few so far, but all the ones I've seen are bloody marvellous.

Keep up the great work. You are so appreciated.

I'm just here to let it be known I'm on Heroes, not to defend my work, my process, or whatnot. I'm happy to talk about it when asked, but otherwise, I just keep doing what I love to : DRAW!

Just so there are no crossed wires, nobody is saying that the artists taken on board aren't talented. Why else would they of been picked? I've seen cards that surpass the "famous" artists that did the original art for LOTR.

No-one has a problem with pencil sketches, in fact some of my favorite sketches are done in pencil. But, our main peeve is with some artists that draw something that resembles something other than what it is meant to be, and looks like a 10 second sketch. Again, this all comes down to our opinion that Topps should compensate artists for their time a lot better than they do.

Like somebody pointed out above it sounds like a general statement against all artists but it really is not, just a select few that I don't even think are members here.

Could we maybe start another thread to complain about sketches and how much the artists get paid. Isn't this thread supposed to be about the upcoming Heroes set featuring alot of things other than sketches aswell. Sorry, just my opinion
