Actors DO have say in sketch card approval. Christopher Lee for LOTR is a prime example.

I heard they do on this set as well, and that was just he says she says. Either way, it is not Topps fault.

I believe that Christopher Lee kept the right to his likeness - not allowing it to be used at all. Not an approval thing, but a licensing/rights thing. Different than actors approving sketch cards of themselves.

Then why was is ok In Evolution and not Masterpieces?

And you know what, I could care less. My point is that it is NOT topps fault at all. So stop blaming them. I'm sure they want to make the best set they can because they know they will be able to pump out more if the first is successful. I am sure Topps is doing everyhting they possibly can to make this set a gem. Getting more artists is just one example.

Some actors have in their contracts approval rights for their image being used by 3rd parties. I know that SMG does for Buffy which is why some manufacturers have to reuse images, as it takes time to go through approvals. I would imagine though that most of the Heroes cast don't have this in their contracts, except for maybe Ali Larter who was a star before the show.

This is why, for example, the artists for Marvel Masterpieces have the freedom to draw ANY character - as it only goes through one man, Stan Lee. I'm positive that artists are given a do's and don'ts list before they start work, I believe that was the case for Transformers.

Anyways, I think it is a mix between the studios and certain actors. I don't think Topps are too fussed based on some of the sketches that have made it into other products!

Zachary is indeed a BIG auto name to secure and all credit to Topps! Thumb Up

Would definitely love to pull his auto as he will also be the young Spock in the new 2008 Star Trek movie.

Definitely!!!! I will be just as happy if Topps add Ali Larter or Hayden Panettiere to that growing list. I am also hoping for Masi Oka as he's one of my fave characters in the series.

I don't think Stan Lee has one iota of anything to do with, well, anything really. He hasn't been involved in the day-to-day running of Marvel Comics in decades, let alone licensing. He gets paid a yearly stipend from Marvel basically just to be Stan Lee. More power to him, I say.

Not sure where you got your info from but I think Topps website should be the most reliable. For example, Noah Gray-Cabey has already been taken off the sketch artists since being announced as one of the autographers.

Here's the link: http://www.topps.com/ent/brands/heros/Heros-Hobby.html

Man I have to imagine Hayden will sign...She is a reltivly new actress, and she does a TON of conventions, usually that is a good sign.

It strikes me odd that out of a cast of male and female stars we do not have one female signer yet Confused Which leads one to believe that Topps is holding onto information as a 'teaser'.

It was definately an approval thing. On Lord of the Ring Evolution, Christopher Lee rejected some cards and allowed others. There are artists that had dozens of cards denied, and one or two get through the approval process. Others would get all thier cards approved. It all came down to Mr. Lee. Thats why for Lord of the Rings Masterpieces,we were instructed to not draw Chriostopher Lee; the approval process took to many cards out of the gameand took too much time.

Wow. Slam. I don't come to YOUR job and call you pitiful...

Also? I think your ideas are a bit outdated. I would agree that 2 years ago, very few artists were doing fully rendered cards; they were doing loose sketches, as the name implies. But today? Its a different story. Take a look in ebay right now at the DC Legacy sketch cards that are in circulation and you'll see that you are very wrong. Also? With a set like Heroes where the cards have to go through a stringent approval process by the network (or whoever) there really aren't that many "dud" cards getting through. So far, artists have had thier whole body of work taken out of the set of its not up to the studio's standard.

So think about what you say before you type it; it comes across as mean and ignorant.

I like what I've seen of the sketches so far, even the rejected ones. It was the main reason I bumped my order up to 2 cases (I love the show and was getting a case no matter what). Maybe this Time I'll pull an Alison Sohn, I came up empty on DC so this will probably Be my last shot at pack pulling one for a while. Eventually when there is a lull in great products I'll get around to ordering commissions again, I'm thinking of a nice Dark Willow from Buffy...
