A Heroes set would be great! Lots of possibilities to create cards (costume, autographs, prop).

But Topps? They severely let me down with their latest releases...
The idea to put autographs on stickers is purely revolting... Shake Head

As wolfie said Van Helsing autos were not on stickers. Also the card manufacturer was Comic Images not Topps.

I dont think Topps is all that bad actually. RA and Ink are better for sure, but I dont mind collecting a Mass Market product. Topps is good for things like Tins - which for some bizarre reason, I really like. as long as they steer clear of sketches, we should be fine Smile

This is really a good news/bad news situation.

Topps CAN make a nice product. However, if they decide to go with sticker autos and "material used to create" costume cards collectors will be less than enthusiastic. Topps also is hit and miss when it comes to chase cards. Some releases are decent, but others (like LotR) lack imagination.

On the plus side, Topps has a pretty good track record of getting big names to sign. Should not be a real problem here, as none of the stars are really big names. Topps also likes retail products, which can be tough to chase but it does have the benefit of exposing cards to new customers, especially kids.

I'll patiently wait and see on this one. Hopefully Topps does a better than average job of letting people know about this one.

Ed

I think this is decent news -- yes, there will be one or two impossible to get autographs (because that's what Topps does...), but it should be a nice looking set. If there is one autograph a box, this would be a 3-4 box purchase for me.

Hmm. Topps. Can this be verified by anyone? I couldn't find it anywhere but my intel is very limited.

I don't mind Topps too much, like Scifi Cards said, they can make nice cards. They can also make lousy ones too.

It will drastically change my ordering of this product when it comes around if it's the case though (no pun intended).

Inkworks/RA: At LEAST 2 cases
Topps: MAYBE 1 case (which will also be a smaller 8 box case)

Upside to Topps if it happens: Retail cards to chase & probably 24 count boxes which will cost less (which could bump them back up to 2 cases if the signers are 1 per box)

Regardless of who makes it, I WANT IT! Love the show and really want a card set!

I thought the same thing, thats why I can't figure out why Topps took this license. I don't know any kids under the age of 16 that watch this TV show.

even so, the van helsing set wasn't a topps set so your point is moot.

I am not a fan of having the autograph being signed right on the card without a special part for the signature (ex: 24 seasons 1 & 2, Van Helsing, etc), but I don't mind the stickers too much unless certain people are short packed so the stickers can be saved for another release. Superman Returns was not the greatest set, so hopefully Topps will go along the LOTR route which were pretty decent sets...

I will get some boxes but I think I'll wait to see how the set pans out before deciding how many I'll get.

i said this in the entertainment thread for Heroes last year

quote:
With Heroes, you could have Art cards, on canvas cards, displaying some of the paintings that are done, also a chase set could be the painting on the floor!!

Another chase set could be something like "Extaordinary Abilities" Showcasing the before and after of the characters, Hiro, nikki etc they all have the two personas. Like a split card of the Evoloution series of LoTR and Star Wars.

Now that screams RA :P

The only chase for that set apart from the auto's was five foil cards.

I honestly saw this as more of an Inkworks set.

Ah well, I have nothing against Topps myself. Every Topps set I have is quite nice looking. I'm not a fan of the whole "Retail Box" vs "Hobby Box" idea though. Do they still do that with their products?

Nevertheless, get Ali Larter to sign and I'll be buying a couple of boxes for sure Cool

Topps Did Daredevil if I am correct and the only chase was Auto's and Costumes at 1 in 72 packs.....
That's a bit harsh
But then again.....
I could see Topps pulling off an awesome Heroes set!!!!!

Why do you people gripe? Be glad that someone is DOING a set at all. And then you gripe because there won't be enough chase cards?
"Oh my gawd, they're only doing 30 autographs instead of 50!" Shake Head Sheesh!

I realize there seems to be a majority of people here who've collected cards for a whole year, and have no memory of Topps being the only game in town way back in the day. But remember the whole purpose of the set is to show pictures and text of the show. Lambasting a company for not putting in a high number of chase cards is stupid. When the chase cards outnumber the base cards, you won't be able to call them chase cards any more. Go to an autograph show and meet the stars.
It's alot more fun getting autos in person.
There's my 2 1/2 cents. Wink
