Another inscription autograph card just added by RA for Rose Leslie, so this set checklist is being updated as notable signers are received, which is smart.

Heh, I guess RA are going to be pleased so many people are interested.

Personally, couldn't care less about a repeat signer with squashing their signature in the corner... but I guess that makes it very evident that I am not the target market for these inscription variants. Hopefully they distract everyone from bidding on the cards I want when the auctions come around Wink

I'm not sure you can even call this type of autograph card a variant because the inscription has basically been commissioned by RA. It is really another sanctioned version because they are saying put in a date, put in a character name, put in a special quote and probably asking for a certain number of each version. Its taking one card and turning it into as many distinct autographs as they can get from signers.

I do like this card because of the particular quote used and unfortunately it does look like she compressed her signature at the bottom. However it still will be in high demand because it resonates as a well known line.

With other inscriptions that are bland numbers and names it wouldn't produce much of a premium. If the quote is unknown it won't produce much of a premium. If it's a common signer it won't produce much of a premium. And if they all have the same words for a signer, they may be inscriptions, but they are not variants.

Ideally the inscriptions, doodles and signature variants that I value more are the ones that some signers have occasionally done on their own that are truly unique. But I think RA has incorporated these "scripted" inscriptions in all its titles now and they know that they have to do something to jazz up autographs of all those repeat signers. But even that will be different only for one set.

Checklist is up.

Very disappointing that there doesn't seem to be a full bleed Tara Fitzgerald.

There are however the promised 10 new signers, including Oliver Ford Davies.

Well just when you've thought you have seen everything. Big Grin

The checklist has 45 Inscription cards, but that is 45 signers. When you look at the breakdown RA has listed a staggering total of 364 different Inscriptions, because each signer except one has multiple inscriptions added to the same card. Each Inscription has its own line and all are marked as Scarce, except that one signer with one inscription, who is Very Limited. So all you Eugene Simon fans, you may be seeing him again. Wink

Now there are also 54 other autograph cards, including duals, and 3 more that are archive or multi case earned.

So by my count, which may have missed a card give or take because I was going blind, there are 421 signed cards in this product that are being listed separately, mainly due to the varying inscriptions.

I have maintained my own checklist of signed GoT cards all these years to keep up some personal account of what I have and what I need. I think I just gave up. Do you know how long it will take me to copy each of those inscriptions into an Excel worksheet? Not going to happen. Big Grin

Nah, that will be my box. Big Grin

I don't really give a fig about the inscriptions, to be honest. I wouldn't classify each version of them either because then you'd have to also classify quality and placement of signature and if they've done a little squiggle or 'x' or a heart too, and that leads to a dangerous road I have no wish to travel. I suppose it depends how far a collector's OCD goes. Big Grin
At this point I'll look for the new signers and any favourites that aren't in the "scarce" range.(ie: the daft price range).

What is it with the Extremely Limited range always including actors that are kind of 3rd string(both actors and characters)? Why make those so limited? Roll Eyes

Did anyone notice the amount of cards that are stated as NOT in the archive box? I think we had a discussion about this last time. That was only about 2 cards for the Season 7 set, but this one is more. An archive box can't be called an archive box if it doesn't have all the hits. IMO. Big Grin Not that little peasant me could ever afford an archive box. Smile

Whatever my whinging above, I'm still looking forward to the set. Smile

So now the folks at RA seem to have changed their minds. The GoT Season Eight Checklist no longer breaks down those 45 Inscription cards into the 364 listed inscriptions that they had just yesterday. It simply lists the 45 signers/cards without any mention of what they wrote. Yes, it all was really there, believe me. Big Grin

I don't get why they would go to the trouble of painstakingly recording all those inscriptions and then wipe it clean. I can think that maybe the whole list looked like too much for some people. Or maybe they were worried that some of the wording was less than PC. Or maybe they weren't sure if they had all the scripts they were including or they had even more they didn't include. I don't know, but they had the actual inscriptions and now they don't.

Somebody went through a lot of typing for nothing. Big Grin Now I wish I had saved it while it was there.

You have to wonder what the problem is with Gwendoline Christie? She has signed only 2 GoT cards for RA, released in Season 2 and Season 3 products. She has never been back in any form.

Neither has Clarke after her 2 in Season 1 and Season 2, but we did get a Cut and a few relics. More over, Clarke had the flashier role and the greater presumed potential of stardom. So it could be chalked up to the pay grade not being high enough for her. Of course you could say similar things about Turner and Williams, yet they have signed an abundance of different cards.

Christie is a mystery and is a good example of why we got sticker autographs. For whatever reason, she just doesn't want to sign for GoT, even though it would seem that more exposure should be good for her. And she has and is signing for TOPPS and Star Wars. Most are stickers, which can go into products as long as the inventory lasts, whether she changes her mind or not. But I also think some of those newer Star Wars cards are on-card. As a popular character in GoT, her absence leaves a hole and increases the value of what she has out there.

The only consolation is that her current autograph is awful, perhaps because of the smaller sticker space, or because she doesn't care to do a full signature anymore.

She isn't the only early star who has gotten progressively worse as the GoT seasons wore on. So when all is done and the supply of autograph cards becomes settled, I really think we are going to get a premium added on those cards that were done in the first and second times by certain people. Not just because we will know about how many they signed, but also because we can see how they signed.

Thanks Ed, you're the best.

Yeah, there are a handful of inscriptions that are kind of rough, including really offensive ones by Jerome Flynn and Burn Gorman, which I see you bleeped. Big Grin

I don't know if RA may not have reconsidered packing a couple of them. I always thought they gave the signers these inscription choices, but I find it hard to believe that RA asked for some of them. In any event, if any collectors are opening up these boxes with their kids, they should at least be aware of the possibility.

These inscriptions were from the show -- or similar to things said on the show. If people are opening GOT cards they shouldn't be offended if quotes from GOT are on the cards. . .

Of course. And its an adult show and only adults are buying these cards, but we both know why some few quotes with off-color words were chosen. Celebrities writing "bad" words will garner a premium in some quarters. Remember the original Billy Ripken FF on the bat handle card. Big Grin That was just in the picture, not an autograph, and it was selling for hundreds at a time when a new card never did. Wink

It's all about the novelty and how much someone is willing to pay for something they think is risqué.

They should be offended that the inscriptions aren't even quotes though... like just getting "GOT" or something.

Honestly, shrinking the list was probably worth Rittenhouse's while just to hide how pathetic some of the inscriptions are.

Ain't no Billy Drago in the lot. Big Grin

To be sure, some collectors would rather pick up autographs on certain card designs than bother with meaningless inscriptions. I don't think it hurts to have the option, but not that many inscriptions increase demand enough all by themselves to be worth more than the regular signature card. Especially with common signers, who can't be dressed up as anything but common.
