Hi all,
A couple of new UK album sticker collections are due out shortly. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Panini, will be doing a set for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Merlin/Topps will be doing a set for the Transformers movie. Best, Christopher ____________________ |

Just remember not to stick the stickers in the album.

No i'm being serious.
The stickers and the album are only in collectible condition if kept seperate. The value of the collection goes down by 50% or more if the stickers are actually stuck into the album. ____________________ Come, it is time for you to keep your appointment with The Wicker Man. |

Absolutely. Sticking them in the album means neither the album nor the stickers are mint. You get people on auction sites trying to selli albums "with all the stickers neatly stuck in" for twenty pounds; in actual fact they're worth a fraction of that.

I didn't know that. I find it stupid not to put the stickers in the album. Do you have to put the stickers in a ultro-pro sleeve to protect them or how do you save them???

Admittedly, it does rather defeat the point of a sticker album...
However, with any collectable item, it's almost always worth more if you keep it in its original condition (in the case of a sticker, with its original backing). A couple of examples: those cards you sometimes see printed on food packaging that they encourage you to 'cut out and keep'. As soon as they are cut out, they become worthless. The whole package needs to be kept if it's to be of any value. Lottery scratch cards: I know of people who collect these. The whole point is to scratch them to see if you've won, but do so and the card is no longer mint! It's interesting that's what's being considered here is the value of collectable item. I knew of someone who wasn't a hardcore collector and went ahead and stuck the stickers he was collecting into the album. When I told him they would be worth more if kept unstuck, he replied that it didn't matter to him as he was never going to sell them. When you think about it, good for him. He's enjoying his collecting without thinking about the value of it. And yes, in the past I've kept album stickers in Ultra Pro pages ____________________ |

I put album stickers in UltraPro pages quite often, in 12-pocket pages for most Paninis and 9-pockets for most Merlins.
The one-pocket pages generally will fit the fresh, pristine, unstuck album. |

It's not always about value and money, because to me such a sticker album is only worth something if every single sticker is actually sticked in the album. I'm only collecting Panini football albums of European and World Championships, but mine are full of stickers, literally... ____________________ |

If you are only collecting the stickers/album for saleable value fine. But if you are actually buying the stickers because you like the subject then stick them in.
On a personal level I would never collect a set of stickers and not put them in an album. If they are seperate they are not "complete". |

I have many sticker collections. All the stickers are in 9 pocket pages and the albums and display boxes are with the pages.
I can look at and enjoy my collection at anytime so i am losing nothing there and if at some time in the future i do sell them i know they will be worth a lot more than if they were stuck in the album. This way i have the best of both worlds. ____________________ Come, it is time for you to keep your appointment with The Wicker Man. |

Good subject, I wondered when this one would come up.
I have a 1970's Football World Cup album full of stickers. I was only 10 at the time so I stuck them in. My father at the time asked me why I did that? So I don't stick stickers in an album any more, the same goes for Brooke Bond cards - it's not a good idea. I'm with Wolfie on this one. |

My first Panini album was the 1986 World Championship in Mexico and I didn't even think twice about not sticking it all in, and so it has remained. Me and my friends always used the album with the stickers in it to identify players while watching the game, look at their stats and enjoy the game. So there's still no point for me of not sticking 'em in, at least with footbal albums. Maybe for sticker albums of non sport issues, I don't know about that

Hmm, I would find it hard to have a sticker album and not feel I was able to stick the stickers inside. It's like my Lego collection....sure, the old legos are worth more mint in unopened packaging, but wouldn't you rather put them together and be able to enjoy looking at the finished product? It just seems like a waste to me. *shrug* But then, I've never collected anything for it's value, I collect the things I like for the enjoyment I get from them.

Yes Wolfie, in your opinion. I don't personally care what anybody else does but please let's not get into "my way is best" The stickers/album will not be worth a penny if nobody wants to buy them. And whether you stick them in, up or neither is only your business. Like all discussions people should say what they do and why they do it, not "my way is best". Everybody has their own way and reason for collecting and all should be respected This message has been edited. Last edited by: hammer, |

I can see with the brooke bond cards as you lose all the writing on the back of the card if you stick them in, I have a different view with stickers, but it is a free world and we should be glad of that |

That was not my intention at all. I was trying to warn people against spoiling the future value of their collection. I will give an example: I have on my trade list a Goldeneye sticker album with all the james bond stickers neatly stuck in it. Over the past year 3 people have contacted me about this item and none have taken it because the stickers were stuck in the album. All 3 said they would have loved it had the stickers and the album been seperate. ____________________ Come, it is time for you to keep your appointment with The Wicker Man. |

Not everybody is interested in future value, some people just collect to enjoy. Just because you like to keep everything intact doesn't mean we all do. Some of us don't want to trade/sell just enjoy what we have and if that includes sticking little stickers in sticker books that's fine.
I suppose the sad thing is there are a lot of grown adults disagreeing about how to keep kids sticker books. As I keep saying enjoy the way you like to collect but don't assume we all want the same thing. I don't care if my sticker book is worth £5 or £50 it won't change my way of life |
