From Attic Cards' newsletter:

Puppet Master: 2020 Convention Packs are now available. Yes, I wish I were at a booth handing these to you in person, but until then we're just going to have to live in an online world. There are two packs available.

Standard Pack: Containing three premium cards printed on red core 35pt stock featuring Blade, Pinhead, and Jester. Also included is a lenticular 3D card of the iconic Puppet Master poster.

Premium Pack: Limited to only 99 packs. Containing three metal cards printed on double metal stock featuring Blade, Pinhead, and Jester. Each card is individually serial numbered to 99. This pack also includes the lenticular 3D card of the iconic Puppet Master poster. BUT WAIT, THERE’s MORE! This pack will also include an original art 1 of 1 sketch card. That’s right, the very first Puppet Master Sketch Cards. Featuring the biggest artists in the trading card industry such as Michael Mastermaker, Huy Troung, Mick & Matt Glebe, Ingrid Hardy, and more! This super limited set is available.

The sketches should do well if they are of good quality, but such low numbers are something I don't understand from a manufacturer's standpoint. You have an interesting title that is not yet overdone, along with a bit of demand, and its gone in a blink of an eye. How much money could they have possibly made on those premium packs with so little product to sell? How much money did they lose by not having more of it? What's the point of having a hit, if the maker isn't the one who profits most by it?

I have fond memories of the first couple of Puppet Master pictures and of some of the early Full Moon junk in general. I was a kid and they were cheap and wacky compared to other horror movies. By the time they got around to the 4th or 5th installment in whatever series, it was unwatchable even back then. I can't imagine seeing any of it again, but who knows? Maybe I should get a DVD for old time's sake.

Nah! Big Grin

You can still buy the regular pack for $4.99. I wanted the premium pack for $ 34.99 to get the 3 metal cards. They sent around the offer yesterday but by this morning all were gone. I missed out.

These are sold as "promo packs"? How can it be promo if its sold as the original distribution method? I dont get that. Shouldn't they be "preview packs?"

They are just as lousy as they were back then. Full Moon was like the SyWhy Channel is today. Quick and crappy movies only a small niche wants to watch.

Here is what the sold out pack looks like.

I guess it's OK to link to the store, as they are all gone.

Missed out on this as well. They could have made more than 99 packs and still sold out.

Hopefully this is a primer for a full release.

There are still standard packs for sale but none of the cool metal/sketch numbered stuff. Not thrilled on how this was released but I guess if the idea was a convention presentation then they might as well get the product out of the house.

Hopefully a full release is still coming with all the bells and whistles.

I don't know. Cards based on stuff like Puppet Master, Reanimator, Lovecraft and even the NOTLD series are not for everyone. They have a lot of ugly, gross out photos and its just hard to turn that into an attractive card set no matter how you try. Big Grin

I think you need to make them better than average and limited, so that the smaller fanbase will buy multiple times, rather than need broad demand to sell out a full release. That's why Attic was able to blow out the premium packs, but not the standards yet. They could have doubled or tripled the premium pack production and sold through, but maybe they couldn't get enough sketches.

Maybe, but Attic is a small company. They might have had only so much money to put into a Puppet Master set and make it as imagined. They might regret not making more but they did what a lot of businesses would like to do: they sold out fast and left the people wanting more.

Isn't that the point of a horror set? Ugly gross out images?

I'm a big horror fan and at one time or another I have watched most of these movies, maybe not Friday the Thirteenth #8, but pretty much most of them. Big Grin There is a difference between good horror and just plain gore. Compared to today's quality, Puppet Master would come in fairly low on the list. There are very good ones like Near Dark and Dawn of the Dead that I still watch. So I'm not opposed to it in principle, but the modern torture-porn is not for me and I don't even call it horror.

As the film making process got better, so did the gore get more realistic. It has its place in a good horror film. but when it is overused and becomes the whole film, gross out is only admired by some. Simply as card images, I don't need that myself. I'm not waiting on the base set for the "Finest Films of Rob Zombie" either. Roll Eyes

I'm not surprised these sold out quickly. I thought about buying some, but hesitated then they sold out.

It's great to see new cards hitting the market, seems like there might the beginnings of a revitalization of small press sets.

So far I have not seen any of these pop up on ebay. Attic told me after he sold out that maybe some of the buyers would try to re-sell them, but no luck on that yet...

Looks like on Nov 27, Attic is selling through their website Puppet Master figures (250 of each made) that come with holofoil stickers and unique, 1 of 1 sketch cards.

On the Premium Pack, I have seen the 3 metal cards surface on ebay, but just 1 of each, and at least one sold. Have not seen the Pack itself show up.

Looks like a cool set. The Little Shop of Horrors is really tempting too. Thanks for posting.
