Topps has a new On Demand set available through its website. Star Wars 3-D.

100 card set, 8 cards per pack. $20.00 per pack.

13 packs with perfect collation to get a complete set.

Going to be interesting.

If enough people buy into enough packs, it might encourage trading to complete sets.

Also one must note that unlike Topps NOW, there is no discount for larger purchases. So this is a $300 set right out the door.

People wanted base sets with value, right?

Ed

If the quality of the cards actually supports a $20 pack price, and having this title, I would agree that Star Wars card fans wanting base sets that will hold value should be interested.

In my opinion all the Topps Now cards have looked cheaply made and not worth the effort or money to piece together. In a time when collectors have less ability to even just find new cards, a well made on-demand set in a popular title could work out well for long term value.

The website says this is the first 3-D set that they did since that one which came in the Boba Fett box back in 2017, the one which was sold directly through the Topps website.

To my knowledge, this is the first 3D set in traditional card style.

We have the 3D sets for many of the movies, but they were all widevision sets.

Hopefully, there will be some trading on this one. I went big, and have 2 customers looking to me to build sets for them. So when this hits, let's all help each other out to finish off sets. Because we know the collation will be spotty, it's Topps.

I think Topps can sell a lot more 8-card packs for $20 if it's a 50 card set. A 100 card set at that price is out of reach for most collectors especially after just shelling out for The Mandalorian and it being the holiday season.

However, it might present an interesting opportunity for someone who springs for just a couple of packs and gets some in-demand singles that they can cash in or trade out. Some collectors might be content with just a sample of the set anyway if the cards look great - maybe pick up more singles over time. It would be interesting to see how packs break down.

Hey Jess.

There are 100 character cards across all Star Wars storylines, so you could probably get rid of a few lesser names, but hard to eliminate 50 of them. Also many collectors don't like the smallish base set.

As with quite a few card makers, TOPPS isn't overly concerned with affordability when it comes to certain product lines.

I have always hated December releases on any titles just because money is already going to other places that are more important.

It took them 5 days to sell out, which is a little long for the average Star Wars On-Demand set. The print run should be announced shortly, which will go a long way towards determining initial value for the set and unopened packs.
We'll see...

I was thinking about springing for a pack or two but am not all broken up about missing out. Maybe I'll get to see a single in person at a show next year.

It will be interesting to see where this set is in a year or two and then five years from now. Is it special or is it just going to be lost in the growing cloud of limited Star Wars sets only the specialists and the gamblers talk about?

Seen posts estimating a run of a little more than 700 sets total. Can't say how accurate that is, but apparently TOPPS has already done something similar for baseball. Early sellers of full sets will test the waters to see how much quick profit they can make before it settles in.

I don't know how Star Wars card collectors haven't just thrown up their hands and walked away. Big Grin It's not just that they keep coming, it's that every year there is at least a couple of "better" sets that must be in your collection or you're not keeping up with the best.

I think if money was not an issue, I'd just get one of every Stellar signer from any Stellar year/set and call it complete. Wink
