News is fresh up on the Rittenhouse release schedule regarding the next James Bond set!! Due out at the end of April 2011, it's called James Bond 'Mission Logs'. I feel spoiled, as it'll be hardly a year since the last set, but I suppose the earlier this is out, the earlier Rittenhouse will be able to begin preparations for a James Bond 50th Anniversary set (which I hope will be a bumper collection), in time for 2012!!! - I can't believe they've had the licence now for a decade!

So, information we know at this stage would include:
a) this will be a retrospective set
b) new signers are due to include Geoffrey Palmer, Ulrich Thomsen, Anthony Zerbe and Anatole Taubman (according to previous statements from Steve)

I'd be interested to know what people's thoughts on a new Bond set are? What avenues are still unexplored for possible chase sets? autographs? etc. Let the speculation commence!!

I still want to see a set of autograph cards of the composers of the title songs and the people who sang them, where possible.

Actually, that's a pretty darn good idea! I'm surprised it hasn't been done.

Nice catch RP01.

As for 'mission logs' - not really sure how that would translate into a card set but I will be interested to see. That said I still think that Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace have been somewhat missed opportunities. RA have mined a tonne of costumes and a good selection of autograph cards for each film but have only a handful of regular cards focussing on the films themselves.

I know RA have stated that retrospective sets are their more successful type of Bond set and went so far as to say Die Another Day (their last film-specific set from 2002!) was their least successful Bond release so shows their thought process when selecting what to realease. However this 'bad' set consisted of just 8 premium cards, and when that followed the then collossal 40th Anniversary set with 22 autos its clear to see where the value was when it came to cracking cases but I think its somewhat shortsighted to cast off any idea relating to a one-film base set on these grounds. As we all know its the premium inserts which sell a product, the base set an afterthought to many collectors. If RA released a 180 card base set (90/Casino Royale, 90/Quantum) but kept every single chase and autograph card intended to be inserted in 'Mission Logs' then I think they would sell as well, if not better, than with a retrospective base set. I don't see how they could do worse!

We would have the 'retrospective appeal' which RA strives for in the autograph/relic cards which are the main draw and we would have a large challenging base set to put together which focuses on two of the most successful/popular Bond films in the franchise. And if RA did have any reservations about focusing on two films for the base set then the premiums will carry them, as always, but I don't think this would be an issue. I'm biased of course and I know I bang on about this with each new set but I think that sort of set composition would be a real winner and much fresher than the usual retrospective rehash, however nice.

As for autographs, my wallet just hopes for an even spread of card styles so I can sit out a few expensive cards whilst forking out for others! I'd like to see a couple more Women of Bond autos and hopefully the 40th Anniversary Craig is as plentiful as the full bleed (approx. 200 cards). Can't wait for the 40th style Luciana Paluzzi, Gemma Arterton and Anatole Taubman and I'd like to see more Die Another Day signers on board: a Diamond-faced Rick Yune; a Colin Salmon (surely an easy one?), Micheal Madsen (declared bankrupt, would jump at the chance to get paid to write his name?). I'll leave my wants list there as we all hope for good new signers. Show me Pierce Brosnan and/or Timothy Dalton for the inevitable 50th Anniversary set next year and I'll fogive them not being in this set. Wink

When it comes to autos a little more quality control wouldn't go amiss either. A125 John Cleese is on a World is Not Enough card but his character is listed as 'Q' but he wasn't Q until Die Another Day. Desmond Llewellyn would be spinning in his grave. A127 Samantha Bond is titled GoldenEye but is quite clearly a picture from Die Another Day. If we are going to get repeats they could at least do it properly - especially when her first card A19 was wrong as well! A124 Geoffrey Holder was in black and white and totally jarred with the 120+ other autos and of course the exact replication of Will Yun Lee should (touch-wood) never happen again. There were a few sloppy errors in the last set. Frown

yes i agree with the moneypenny

SAMANTHA BOND (there is already a samantha bond goldeneye but the image is from die another day,in goldeneye her hair was long,so there is still an option for a correct sam bond goldeneye card)

also here,The Robert Brown auto is the Living Daylights but the image is from the ''farewell to arms'' scene in Licence To Kill Razz

Did forget about Sinclair, probably becuse being in colour fits with the rest! If Daud Shah appeared in the film only in b&w I think we can be more forgiving.

OMG! It's almost unbelievable to think that Rittenhouse could be offering us Daniel Craig AND Pierce Brosnan autograph cards in the next Bond release. Never thought I'd see the day!!! In the 10 years they've had the Bond licence, Rittenhouse has pulled out surprise after surprise. Moore, Andress, Craig, and now Brosnan. What next? Actually there's only one other actor who could top that Wink. Am truly in shock.

Reckon I'm going to have to live on bread and water for the next few months so I've got money in the bank for April...

I can't believe it either. We definately have a full bleed Brosnan coming in Mission Logs (as per Steve's comments on the RA boards) and we could well have a 40th syle Craig as well which has to come out at some point. Not to diminish RA but to get two very current and very popular A-listers like Brosnan and Craig really is quite surprising and does speak volumes about the effort RA puts into each set. If they can get these two on board I hold high hopes for future releases (Connery and Rigg being the only two I will never hold my breath for). I'll cross my fingers for Timothy Dalton and Christopher Walken.

Seriously, once RA have put out Brosnan and Craig on 40th style cards they could call it a day on Bond cards as far as I am concerned and I'd be very happy. That said, I know they would keep putting out great new sets with great new signers which would literally be the icing on the cake.

I shall too be saving, failing that I will sell a kidney. I'm even going to break my "no-full-bleeds" rule but I don't care. Brosnan is my Bond or the Bond 'of my generation', so for me, trading cards can never get any better than this.

So excited for May. I'll shut up now! Dance Dance Dance

Hmmm, less impressed that it's full-bleed, I have to admit (all the best cards always seem to come out in full-bleed first). But providing a 40th Ann version comes out at some point, I shall be more than happy...and if I'm honest, the full-bleeds are quite attractive cards in their own right - but just not as complete or "Bond-esque" as the 40th Anniversary series, IMO.

I agree with you that Connery, Rigg and probably Bianchi too are pretty unlikely to ever happen. I wrote to Connery requesting an autograph recently and I did get a response, although I'm pretty sure the autograph's a secretarial.

Not sure I'd want Rittenhouse to call it a day with the Bond licence though...not until the Bond franchise has come to an end altogether, although I can't see that happening any time soon.
