Alien Armies hit the newagents shelves today.

Priced 50p per pack. manufatured by Panini
Each pack contains 6 cards
The set comprises of

  • 180 Standard cards
  • 40 Glitter Foil Cards #G1-G40 Print Ratio 2:1
  • 20 Super Foil cards #F1-F20 Print Ratio 4:1
  • 20 Super Foil Emboss Cards #E1-E20 Print ratio 4:1

I bought 5 packs and pulled 2 Glitter Foil cards, 1 Super Foil card and 1 Super Foil Emboss card.

It's nice to have more Doctor Who cards to collect but I'd rather see a proper Hobby set with autos, Costume and Sketch card. How much longer can these componys keep churning out card games? On the plus side, at least it's cheap-ish

As long as sufficient people keep buying them, the companies will continue to produce them. So if you want to see something else, just stop buying them Smile Unfortunately, if these sets stop selling, the companies could also decide to move to a completely different market/subject as the falling sales would indicate that interest in the series was dropping so a new product might be a bad investment. Basically, you can't win so all you can do is wait and hope Big Grin

Well I couldn't resist. I caved in and bought 40 packs just for something to open. Odds are stated on the packs - Glitter 1:2 - Foil 1:4 and Embossed 1:4. The cards are on nice thick glossy stock.

Out of my 40 packs I got:

142 unique commons, 68 Duplicates and 10 triplicates
17 unique glitter, 3 Duplicates
5 unique foil
5 unique embossed.

In my opinion they are worth it as a quick 50p - ? spend and some packs to open.

The Base set seems to cover Equipment (Tardis, Extrapolater etc)for the first few cards then in story order characters from Tennent's tenure in Tardis up to Planet of the Dead.

The nice touch is that the first 10 Embossed foils seem to be Doctors 1-10, I cant't confirm this but I have E4 (Tom Baker), E6 (Colin Baker), E7 (Sylvester McCoy) + E10 (David Tennent) so it seems logical, nice touch I thought. The only problem with them is that the embossed part is the new Gallifrey circle type thing emossed on the card an the card name, no 3d effect on the card other than that. They are numbered E1-E20

The Glitter cards remind me of the foils from Cornerstone Series 1 and are very well... glittery. They are numbered G1-G40

The Foils are just plain foil cards numered from F1-F20.

The odds are a bit off in 40 packs in theory I should have got 10 Embossed and 10 Foils. It looks more like 1:8 as a overall ratio but getting one or the other as a 1:4 ratio. Logic dictates therefore that a full box should yield approx 12 of each cards, probebly a full base set and maybe a full set of Glitter cards.

All in a nice little distracting product until something with a bit more beef comes along I think, which may be some time away.

I may even partake of a box.

Just for you wolfie...

God only knows why the scans turned out tinted blue, stupid scanner.

Yes I know theres more than my post above... I am weak when it comes to Doctor Who cards. OK I admit it I bought a box. 2 Full base sets 1 set of 40 Glitter cards, 13 Foils and 12 Embossed, too many base set spares.

Where I am, the independent newsagents have plenty, but not WH Smiths or the supermarkets.

Well done to the small traders, you get my business!!! Metal

Definitely a superior set to the Battles in Time cards... Cheaper and better quality. Given the lack of other DW cards on the horizon, I think I shall enjoy collevting these.

I bought a box which had 2 basic sets, 1 glitter set and 13 foil (no dupes) and 13 embossed (no dupes).

It is worth mentioning the basic cards have a nice matt/gloss finish, and the according to the back of the box there is a special binder.

The binder is due out with the "starter pack" on 1st October (ie tomorrow). Hope it's a nice binder. I do like a nice binder! Drool

Yes 100 packs in a box.

The binder will probably be hopeless, they usually are. Still, what do we expect for £4.99

£50 for a full base set and 13/20ths of the chase sets is quite expensive! Big Grin

Yes it is! when you consider it's only a basic and low chase set he completed for £50.00 not the rarer foils. Anyway along with the starter pack (which has the binder in it) there will also be tins, however the information I have on those must be incorrect because they are pricing them at £9.99 per tin but you only get 10 packs...

The starter pack includes a binder a "game mat" rules and 3 packs. This image is obviously a mock up because you can see it says there are 260 cards rather than the 280 that we know about. These are as has been said out tomorrow.

It's also worth pointing out that they are playing a very dodgy game with the odds on the packs, they say that you will get the embossed and foil cards 1 in 4 so far thats not the case, they are 1 in 8 meaning that overall you will get one of the two types of cards in every 4 packs. If that's intentional then I think they might have a problem. The again at least they have chase card in the set.
