Wow, that is a bit surprising... First I've heard of it, but I'm not UD Direct so I'm not exactly in the loop. Confused

It will be Upper Deck's first Non-Sport title in quite awhile. Wonder what happened to the deal with Rittenhouse to produce Marvel Cards?

Upper Deck has the ability to make this one a great set. I just hope they put their all into it. If so, it will be great. If not...

Yikes Eek, I also just looked at the calendar... With DC Legacy on September 26th (might just as well be October) there will be 2 major sketch products coming out at the same time. Not sure that's a wise business move on Upper Deck's part, but it will hurt Rittenhouse orders as well if dealers have to decide which one to order.

Hmm. . . Is this all you heard? What is your source?

Would be interesting as UD does little with non-sport, and this would be their first product with such frequent sketches.

I got an email from a dealer today saying case prices will be around $600. I hope this set has more than just sketch cards though. They are starting to get kind of old.

It's my understanding that sketches can be color or just pencil, so it dosn't sound like it's going to be the quality that you would get from Complete Avengers or DC Legacy.

My source was from a dealer that I've bought cases from before. And that's all the info he gave me. That's why I though I'd ask if anyone else knew more about this series.

I don't think they own the license outright.
I think its a sub-license.
If you look at the Avengers cards from RA all of them have the UD logo on it.

Interesting, I have yet to obtain any of these cards so never knew this!

Potentially this could be a great set for a collector with a budget.
Upper Deck have a reputation to over-produce sets, so if there are 50,000 boxes or so of this made, then it would give everyone a chance to get in with the set.

Interesting. . . I thought they were only able to do Marvel CCG stuff. . . Of course that information is like 4th hand so ???

Sort of funny. . . we go from no Marvel sketch cards for years, now multiple sets with them.

We'll see. As much as topps gets maligned they are leaps and bound better than UD when it comes to non-sports, at least in my opinion. Think Hulk where they tied the Daredevil Jennifer Garner auto as a prize when ordering cases which had just 1 sketch per case and some lame inserts, or the previous Spider-Man movie sets which only had some low level chase but the box prices were still fairly hefty.

I believe some those were Topps sets. While UD did do a Hulk set, it had nothing to do with Garner incentive, that was Topps. Topps had the first Spider-Man movie set, Upper Deck the second. I do agree UD has a terrible track record with non-sports, I have absolutely no faith in them at all to produce a quality "Marvel Masterpieces" set, or just any non-sport set for that matter. I wish they would just stay with sports, of which they have a number of problems, also. Slow or unfulfilled redemptions, a 1 of 1 card with bogus signatures, etc. Frown

Well I'm staying tuned for more info on this. I loved the marvel masterpiece theme; some of the art was spectular especially Boris/Julie, Hildebrandts! But these days I'd think the sketches have to be the standard of Avengers for the most satisfied buyers. I love artist renditions of characters so I'll be excited about the base set as well. Sketches could be every second box but I wouldn't like it as low as X-men last stand. However the timing stinks because there's been several sketch card releases already, then Star Wars and of course DC legacy in Sept. Plus no faith in Upper Decker; would much rather have seen RA do this. After all was expecting they'd get round to more Marvel themes given Avengers and DC Legacy. I so wanted the X-men to get the Avengers treatment. Or even a Marvel legacy.

Well. Thats some news.
I checked the UD site, no info of any kind there about this. I dont know at this date, if theyd be able to make this happen by Oct. That is, if they kept true to the Marvel Materpieces tradition & feature all new art in the cards.
I could see them maybe wanting to do so though. With the success of the CA set by RA, they see the $ in them. To say nothing of the buzz about the product. The fact thats its UD looking to make the set would make this something of a trainwreck.

If you look at the Avengers cards from RA all of them have the UD logo on it.

Upper Deck did the card sets for the first two Spider-Man movies, and they have the 'complete' license, but I think they realized that partnering with Rittenhouse would give them access to some people who understand the market a bit better.

But one odd thing I noticed about the autographs for the Spider-Man 3 set. Most of these are from Movies 1 and 2, and Rittenhouse didnt' have the sub-license from Upper Deck when the movies came out. So, the cards show the UD logo but there's no RA logo!

This is definitely coming. We'll have an exclusive promo for the new Marvel Masterpieces series in the September shipping Non-Sport Update. We are also planning a cover and cover story for that issue.

Yeah, I heard from an artist (who will remain nameless) that he is already working on this set. Since I am a Marvel Zombie and I loved most of the MM sets from the 90s, I am all over this set!!!
