Thought I'd share this. I just e-mailed Rittenhouse asking them if they still had the license to do Iron Man cards for the sequel. Here's the response I got back from Mr. Charendoff:

"We will not be making the Iron Man 2 cards, but we will have an expansion set for the first movie before the end of this year, including another Robert Downey autograph card (as Iron Man, not Tony Stark)."

That's too bad they are not doing the set for the sequel but I can't wait to see the Downey autograph as Iron Man and what else will be in the expansion set. Very cool! Clap Metal

This almost sounds like someone else will be making the cards for Iron Man 2.

I hope SOMEONE will.

Seriously, the Auto potentials for Iron Man 2 are so off the charts it's not even funny.

Forget RDJ for a second. Don Cheadle? Scarlet Johannson? Mickey Rourke? Kate Mara, Sam Rockwell, possibly Paul Bettany...it would be a TERRIFIC Auto lineup.

My God.

I would have preferred Rittenhouse... But I imagine Topps will get it.

Darn. There goes any continuity with the first set. I wonder why RA isn't doing it. I thought the first set was great.

I was hoping for an Iron Man 2 set from RA because of the potential autograph list already mentioned, even if only a couple of those signed it would have been a good set. As for the expansion set, I'm still holding out hope Gwyneth Paltrow might sign, she's on my top 10 list of actress autos I'd love but who haven't signed for any set yet. She's right between Reese Witherspoon and Tea Leoni on my wish list.

One of my sports card buddies told me that he heard that the Marvel properties were bought back by Upper Deck for 2010.

I hope there isn't another "big" autograph with the one they have it will probably be a 300.00 set and if they had a second big autograph that would probably be a buy 3 set incentive..

UNLESS the Downey autograph is a 3 or 5 set incentive..

IF there is another big card a Samuel L. Jackson would be cool Big Grin

I don't know about the Topps statement. UD has NEVER put out a good successful movie non sports set. They had success with Marvel Masterpieces, but they have never even come close to success with movies.

I would actually rather Topps get this one... and that is only because of UD's track record. Plus even though the odds are extreme, Topps has demonstrated that they can secure HUGE signers for sets. I doubt UD odds would be any different than if Topps got the license.

Keep in mind Panini is now running Upper Deck. So they might be doing movie properties with a "fresh look". I'm trying to keep an open mind here. (And I think Topps puts out an inferior product in my opinion.)

I perfer Topps over UD anyday. Topps does put out some nice sets, although they do come out with some clunkers now and again. UD didn't even do a good job with MM, it could have been a much better product with a bit more effort. I guess it was better than Igor and Despereaux. Big Grin

The Iron Man expansion set sounds interesting, I hope they just issue a nice set without incentives, priced right, I think it would do well. The Hulk set didn't do anything for me, but I think they have a lot more to work with here as far as signers and costumes.

Umm, unless there as been a big super secret takeover panini has nothing to do with UD, panini took over Donruss so their first foray into non-sports since the takeover is the latest Americana release.

RA would clearly be my first choice to do an IM2 set and UD would be at the bottom of the list. As pointed out, while the odds for the big name autos from topps are usually pretty long at least they get the big names. UD doesn't even try, think of their Fantastic 4 movie set, no autographs (or sketches), no inserts, just a few costume cards serial numbered into the thousands for the most part. Gee, I wonder why very few people were interested in opening boxes?

Oops... my mistake, I was thinking of Donruss. Thanks for correcting me Incarnadine. Disregard that post.

From what I've heard Gwynie is very selective about everything she does. It would make for a great card, but signing for an Iron Man set is probably way beneath her. Roll Eyes

Technically I don't think RA lost the Marvel license. UD always had the license and RA sub-let the license for a time being. (too short)

I do not belive that to be the case. Back when Complete Avengers came out, RA did sub-let the license, but I belive that RA has had their own limited lecense for the last few years. Otherwise, they would not be able to produce anything now as UD can not sub-let something that they do not have.
