Aside from big screen Strictly Ink have not released a set this year have they? That set didn't have any over production on sketches did it? In which case this "year box" will not have much in it, unless Barrie has found a lot more stuff that he thought was all sold out, or perhaps more unlicensed "in house" samples. The web site is still dead so I guess we will all have to wait and see what he will be charging nearly £100.00 for this year.

Now now, I am sure it's all above board and in good order, lets not jump on Strictly Ink to much, while some might not be happy with there past practices we should still wait until we know whats IN the set...

lol great now I look like I'm nuts! Thanks mystery moderator!

I would like to say one thing however, the Harryhousen sketches were from an unreleased set, and one that from what I understand Mr Harryhousen himself stated he did NOT want released. Hence the sketch cards being included in the yearboxes, if they are producing more of these it not only undermines the value of the original "limited" sketch cards (from Hammer as well)but it is also very possibly against the wishes of the rights holder. This MAY be the case but without farther investigation or clarification it may not be.

I would class any cards commissioned after the release of the set and not for redemptions to be after market cards but they don't mark them as such. They did a LOT of that with the first Trilogy release, which you can see if you check out some of the dated cards, they were drawn well after the set was finished.

Hm, from my few brief conversations with Mr Harryhausen in the past, the only objections he has had with over products being released were when they weren't officially authorised so he didn't get any money (the exact details of the Strictly Ink deal are not known, so it would be wrong to speculate. I do know that the set was going to include cards autographed by Mr Harryhausen so it was going to be authorised..but something obviously went wrong with the negotiations), they were poor quality even if official (it's well known that he really did not like the Mattel Kraken model produced for Clash of the Titans) or when people get his name wrong. It's amazing how many people have difficulty spelling 'HARRYHAUSEN' Wink

From my experience, he is a very easy person to deal with. However, his agent may be a whole different matter and he's the one you'd be talking money and terms with.

yeah spelling is not one of my greater skills, as you may have noticed and he has a tricky name Razz lol

The information I was given (second hand) said it had a lot to do with the sketch cards, apparently he was not happy that other artists were drawing them, and/or wanted larger percentage of the proceeds making the set untenable. Again this is secondary information which I have NO verification on, but it comes from someone who has been reliable in the past. I am in the process of trying to get clarification and on the whole issue.

I had my fingers badly burnt with the Yearboxes I bought from Barrie first time around, and as a result won't touch any more of them, albeit it's unlikely there will be any Who content on this occasion anyway.

IMHO at this price point (nearly GBP 100) then (a) you shouldn't be offloaded with remaindered cards from previous releases and (b) you really should have a good chance of getting at least one of every sketch type/series in each Yearbox.

And it really should not be a vehicle for specific sketch cards which were promised for other releases but were never found.

Actually, that would make sense as they were probably going to appear at around the same time Ray Harryhausen launched his then new book 'The Art of Ray Harryhausen'. The illustrationn used on the cover of the book was also on the first promo card for the set. Excellent book by the way Smile

This is the first I have heard of this set.I usually get an e-mail from Barrie well in advance of the release.

Hard to know what to think until we get more details on the content.

In his email to me about "The Avengers 3 Gold" set, Barrie also mentioned

with ultra rare Gold Border and Unique Black Back Sketch Design cards on Dr Who and Hammer Horror and also a new
9 card additions trading cards premium preview set as well as five new sketch cards, new Harryhausen too!

At the moment there is just not enough solid information, especially on the yearbox, for me to buy .

Last year the sketches were all posted on the website, even if some of the best ones did not make it into the boxes Shake Head .

Although Barrie sats they may pre sell out I would rather wait and maybe miss out than buy before all details are known and get less than I hoped for as has sadly happened in the past.

With Triple-Frog exactly on this. Too high a price for such an uncertain purchase. Frown

Carolyn Edwards has commented on her blog that she has "also been given some Doctor Who Big Screen Mono, 2000AD, Ray HarryHausen, Hammer Horror and CSI blanks to work on for the year-book"

I have been burnt on year boxes - too many promises that aren't delivered. Plus as dis68 indicates too many re-issues of sketches related to long dead sets which dilutes the value of previous purchases Shake Head

I'm working on 25 Hammer Horror, 25 HARRYHAUSEN and 25 CSI sketch cards for this. I also just completed 25 New Avengers cards for the Avengers 3 set. Happy Hunting guys.

Samples for Avengers are now available on my Facebook Fan Page. Just look up my name Rich A. Molinelli.

Are these being done on the same blank cards as the original sets or have they been changed/redesigned ?
