OK, so I love Tippi Hedren. Not in a stalkery way or anything like that. The Birds and Marnie are two of my all time favorite movies.

SO, I have a bunch of autographs from Americana and Celebrity Cuts, but I noticed that last year's Topps American Pie had Tippi Hedren listed. Has anyone seen it? Do you have it?

I think it's a 1/1. Anybody know of a good way to track that down?

This sounds like it is about me wanting one card, and it is... But I sincerely hope it generates some discussion about the ultra rare cards and collector frustration, or lack thereof, it creates.

If it was a true 1/1 with no other versions, you're pretty much out of luck. You can stalk eBay for it and it might show up eventually.

But 1/1 cards would tend to stay in collections or get sold right away when the product was being broken.

1/1's are a disservice to the collector. I guess it's cool for 1 person, but if there are no less-rare option it's just a broken promise in my opinion. Might as well not be in the set.

I kind of agree. I have a few printing plates, which are 1/1, but I actually view those as 1/4 since there are 4.

It would have been very cool to pull that 1/1 myself, but otherwise it's just a constant reminder of my fairly poor luck opening product.

I don't think a 1/1 Tippi Hedren American Pie autograph card is that special. Sure it may be stamped 1/1 and it may or may not have a different picture than the regular card, but its a sticker autograph. Who knows how many stickers she signed, when they will show up or on what card they will be affixed. There could be a 1000 1/1s eventually.

To me a 1/1 card really has to have some quality that sets it apart besides just a stamped number. All sketches could be called 1/1s as long as the same picture is not produced more than once. Certain variants might be considered 1/1s. Autographs with various inscriptions might be considered 1/1s.

It hard to explain, but you know it when you see it. I'd rather pay more for something that looks special, whether or not it is an official 1/1, than buy another sticker autograph that looks pretty much like all the others except that it has a stamp.

I do agree about how some cards are labeled 1/1s. I have one that the difference is the color of the card and the 1/1 printed on it. Those may be of some minor added value to someone who specifically collects that player / actor / whatever, but to me it is a bit silly.

The Tippi only holds value to me because there is only the auto of her from that set. I have one from each of the other sets she signed for.

Well sure, if you are a big fan of Tippi Hedren I can certainly see where you would want to acquire her American Pie cut if you could find it.

As a certified autograph card collector I have a whole issue going with cut signature autographs in general. Tippi Hedren is an example of a celebrity who is alive, well and actively signing for card manufacturers, so I would not see the need for a cut signature unless the cut is inscribed specifically for the product. That was done in some Americana sets where they printed film titles on index type cards, had them autographed and then mounted in cards. Those at least have some appeal and are unique to the product.

What I really don't like is the cut signatures produced by Razor and others, where they just cut off the autographs from photos, index cards, checks, letters, and even other cards. Those cuts made for some ugly looking cut signature cards. Despite claims of authentication, I always got the feeling that they were produced from autographed items that couldn't sell on their own.

If the signer is alive and does give autographs, I would value any certified card over a cut signature. In the market it is probably considered the opposite, I just don't agree with it.

And there is still nothing like an on-card autograph, so give a hand to those manufacturers who have continued to stay away from the stickers.

I like cut signatures even if the celebrity is alive. I like them more than a sticker auto, and, in rare cases, they can even be better than an on-card auto. To me, it is just another autograph of someone I like. Nothing more nothing less.

So, anyone seen that Tippi cut, yet.

I have a couple of nice Tippis I would like to share with a fellow fan. My 2 cents I like in order of most to least; on card, cuts, stickers and least of all cut checks..

I am working towards putting up something with all of my favorite cards, but I have a 1 year old at home with another baby on the way. So, there's been little time for anything like that for a bit, but I do hope to get to it soon-ish.
