I just bought this auto on eBay -- #190234303337. It's a Topps King Kong Andy Serkis as Lumpy the Cook autograph. I'm hoping it's real but I have never seen or heard of it. Anyone have any idea if it's real? I compared his signature to his LOTR autos and it's a match. I'm convinced the signature is real I'm just hoping it's authentic Topps and not a fan made card. I remember reading somewhere that Topps was planning a King Kong update set with Serkis' auto on the sell sheet (I think). I would really love to see that sell sheet but it's probably impossible to find now. I'm hoping it's like the Planet of the Apes Estella Warren autograph in that it is real just never pack inserted and extremely scarce. I can't wait for it to arrive to see it up close. Anyone hear of this?

I hate to speculate, but I've never heard of this card. . . it would be helpful to see a scan of the back. . . I would be weary of it's authenticity especially as other Topps Fan made autographs have shown up before.

Good luck!

Jon

Maybe it's like the Planet of the Apes Estella Warren auto, made but never put into packs yet a few mysteriously made it on to the market later on. Roll Eyes

No where in the description or title does it say that it's an authentic autograph card... I'd venture to guess it's fan made.

Do you think Topps would be honest or would they say it's not authentic to any autograph that wasn't "officially released"? Does anyone know if they ever said the POTA Estella Warren auto was real? I would like to try to contact them but it might be a waste of time if they won't give me an honest answer.

I hadn't heard about this one, and if Topps released it "very rare" with the series, they never said anything about it on their website.

There's a good possibility that it's "real" but it was planned for King Kong Update Edition that never got produced. Topps was fairly far along in designing the set before the movie bombed.

I have the update sell sheet and it's Naomi Watts card that is on the sell sheet and not Andy Serkis.

I ask the seller where he get the card, stay tunes!

I remember also from Non-Sport update article about the release of Kong from Topps back in 2005 that Andi Serkis, Peter Jackson, Naomi Watts and Adrien Brody was suppose to sign.

It looks like seller has a lot of the big topps inserts so maybe it is one of those rare things that find their way out of the vault from time to time...

i have heard that topps did a raffle for 2 estella warren cards
at a convention a few weeks ago
don't know if its true
but that would be a deffinate confirmation from topps on that card
so it would be good to ask about the serkis

Topps has done this at the Philly show, so I would not doubt it at all.

Wow, that seller does have some good TOPPS autos. Amazing how the Xena autos have dropped, there was a time that Hudson Leick was selling will over $200, now it's less than $60 BIN, and LOTR autos, I never noticed they have dropped so much, a bit more and I might get a few. LOL. Eek

The seller told be that he buy the Serkis auto from a personnal collection a few months ago.

And the seller wasn't aware that this card was not on the original release.

So no confirmation yet if it's an original or not.

Hi Darren:

As kjn said in the post after yours above, if you'll use the alert button to let us know of questionable posts, we can look a bit faster that way. The alert button is the icon on the far right that looks like a triangle with a exclamation mark in the middle. Those messages go to the mods and myself.

We might not see every post but we definitely see the alerts.

Thanks.

Harris

That's the same thing the seller told me. I can't wait to have it in hand to inspect it myself. Thankfully I have a few other King Kong autographs to compare it to. After spending $80 on the card I'm counting on the fact that it is real. I figure I have 2 things working in my favor. One, the seller is selling and has sold a TON of other Topps autographs which leads me to believe that they have some connection to the company which would explain having such a rare prototype autograph. And second, if someone was going to fan-make an autograph of Andy Serkis, why in the world would they not do it as King Kong instead of Lumpy the Cook. It doesn't make sense to me. A King Kong autograph would be much cooler and far more desirable.
