I am also a completist because I want every card in every Bond set, including the (sometimes) irritating variants. Surprisingly, there aren't really that many gaps in my binders, but they are very expensive spaces to fill.

Speaking of variants, did you notice the green ink Kiel full bleed in my collection or the Bulloch 40th anniversary type with his character name of Smithers added? I didn't know if these were rarities or not. I have the Bulloch without the Smithers added as well but have no other Kiel full bleeds to compare it to except for the 2 on ebay currently. I don't go out of my way to collect the variants because just to collect the different Joe Don Baker cards would cost a lot of money.

Bacall1 - I totally understand the 'completest to a fault mentality'. I used to be exactly the same but the full-bleeds 'broke me' as it were and consequently I don't get hung up on master sets any more (which I find quite liberating!). Its daft we pay more than a couple of quid for any of these bits of cardboard but thats my hobby so I just get on with it. However the expense of trying for every full-bleed as well as all the other autos, just for the sake of completion, was sucking the fun out of the hobby for me and I even contemplated getting rid of ALL my Bond cards! Thankfully I only culled the full bleeds and kept the rest which I did enjoy collecting more. Ironic given I was one of the people originally begging Steve over at RA to make the full-bleed cards in the first place.

Your storage methods make more sense now. If I had kids running around I'd probably do the same!

Your green ink Kiel and 'Smithers' variant autos are definately rarer than the blue Kiel and non-Smithers Bulloch.

drofdarb - I can only imagine that the Rhys Davies 15-case cards linger unsold because some are hesitant to shell out so much for him, but with only 30-40 cards it's no doubt the rarest of the lot. With the Brosnan cards, give it a few months and once they dry up it'll be a tough one get. I remember when Heroes & Villains came out there was a glut of Craig autos on the market (seemed to be more cards than Brosnan) and now I hardly ever see that card.

As for Maud Adams hammock card... I thought about adding her to the list as some have mentioned having trouble getting this card and I have seen high prices paid but I never got the feeling that it was rare at the time of release. I bought mine for £35 and later sold it for about the same before the demand took off for it. Damn.

As for the 1st Janssen full-bleed, I don't know if you remember when Dangerous Liaisons came out but that card caused quite an uproar. This Janssen is a super short print card and should have been designated 'Extremely Limited' rather than 'Very Limited' as I am positive there are MUCH less than 200 cards out there. This card is definately rarer than either Brosnan or Craig and second only to Rhys-Davies. I spoke to one dealer who opened 14 cases and pulled just one and that was out of a 6,000 box run (the smallest RA have done for Bond) and there were many complaints on the RA boards as to how unattainable this card was which led to RA issuing the second Famke full-bleed in collector friendly quantities. When this card does show up expect silly prices.

RP01 - I too started collecting RA cards back when 40th Anniversary came out. I'd never heard of a set of cards with 2 guaranteed autos per box and a 22 auto card run so simply had to get a box. I pulled the Connery costume and my very first auto was A1 Jonathan Pryce - a fitting start to that collection!

I never persued full auto runs with much zeal but once I had pulled the A2 Joe Don Baker from a couple of packs (the then most expensive card at the time) I decided it was high time to close the gaps. Then Complete Bond came out, then In Motion, and so on... like you, having got in early, I have tackled each new roster of signers on a set by set basis so have not had the extra burden of having to work backwards or deal with escalating prices of once affordable cards.
I remember when Marceau was £40 at the most, in fact I bought her Women of Bond card for £30 which I thought was a steal for a main Bond girl, then a couple of years later I bought the same card at a show for £14.99! Trying doing that in 2011. Since one of our very own UK dealers listed one on eBay and the bidding mania took it to £125, things have never been the same since.
Same with the Bach, I paid £50 for the last one at CollectorZone/CardsInc which I thought was way too much in 2004. What a novice I was!
In fact, I added Dench and Mikkelsen to the 'hard' list because since release their prices have escalated dramatically, no doubt a positive reaction to Casino Royale, a couple more Marceau's in the making?

As for rarest 40th card, A56 Janssen comes close for sure, but I think there were definately more of her cards available upon release - I had three of hers at one point but had a nghtmare of a time trying to get even one A98 Joe Don Baker for a good price. Plenty of A98 have lingered unsold in eBay stores since it's initial release due to the ridiculous asking prices but 'new' cards of his pop up much less than Janssen. She was tough but he definately 'felt' a more of a short print.

I'd love to see your 40th cards arranged by film as I have often thought of doing it myself but the time it would take to rearrange, then rearrange back into numerical order always puts me off. I'll get round to it one day and make some scans for posterity. To someone as anal as me the printing variations amongst the 40th cards do niggle away at me... we have some white card stock and others cream, blue gun barrels and a handful with a purple hue, but at a casual glance I think the eye skims over these 'faults' because, as you say, when in the page they look great.

cardaddict - whilst I store my autos in pages (and soft sleeves) I defiately take 'special care' of them and handle them with 'kid gloves'. The other week I saw a guy at a show leaning on a dealers Bond cards - his whole weight upon his fist. They weren't even my cards and I wanted to slap him!

Good point. The cheapest I ever saw a Joe Don Baker A98 go for was just over £100 not long after release - other than your sneaky win which you told us about recently, where you won one as part of a job lot!! Ever since they've tended to be for sale at set (and somewhat exaggerated) prices. I guess I always think of the Famke Janssen A56 as the rarest, because I believe it was this one, the Famke Janssen WOB and the original Dangerous Liaison's Janssen auto that were all signed by her at the same time, all of which were super rare - although I believe the full-bleed tops the lot in terms of rarity.

Would be pleased to scan my autos in film order, but I wouldn't do justice to them to do it at the moment. What with a fresh collection just out, there's loads of holes to be filled. And as a collector who likes to spread out my purchases, rather than get the whole lot at once, it'll be a bit of time before I fill in a good number of those gaps. That said, the majority of the 40ths for this release are reasonably priced. However, if my hunch is right and the 50th set sees the release of Brosnan, Craig and endless other higher profile names in 40th style, the next collection is going to be a hugely expensive affair.

And now there's another Bond autograph card that the completists amongst us will have to hunt down:

http://scifihobby.com/rewards/...U=BONDMADSENAUTOBLUE

Am quite glad Rittenhouse have done this actually, because the red autograph really did look quite bad. Fingers crossed the 40ths were signed in blue.

RP01 - Yes the Baker was a very sneaky win if I do say so myself. I had the seller pull the listing on the basis he'd take £45 for the 11 cards. Clearly didn't know what he had. Subsequently another sneaky fellow stepped in offering £50 for just Baker, so I thought I would have the stronger hand if I made the seller's life that bit easier by offering to take all the common cards off his hands as well rather than quibbling over just Baker. He haggled me up a bit and maybe the seller was just gouging me, and if he was, fairplay to him as £85 is still very good price for Baker on his own. The seller was very slow to communicate so I had a nail-biting back and forth across 2 weeks not knowing of I'd even get the card. Yes, I am a shamless mercenary. Big Grin

Apart from the most recent full-bleed, it's a shame that all the Famke autos are ridiculously rare given what a great character she was and her obvious popularity. Her 40th and 1st full-bleed cards have copyright dates of 2004, whereas her Women of Bond and 2nd full-bleed cards have 2008 copyright dates(the 2nd full-bleed might be '07) . I find it odd that after RA went to the effort of getting Famke to sign more full-bleeds to make up for so many collectors missing out on the first one in Dangerous Liaisons, that they would make her Women of Bond auto the 6-case incentive card limited to less than 100 – thereby creating another impossible to get Famke Janssen!

Its great to see nearly all the 40th style cards in Mission logs being so affordable, hard not to pick up at £5 a piece, don't know how you are abstaining. I use to do the same and 'savour' but get carried away nowadays as I have fewer gaps, so it's more tempting to buy that 'next card'. I’m having a bugger of a time trying to get Catherina von Schell for a good price though. I paid £21 for Fiona Fullerton so that is all Schell is getting! Apart from those two, all the other Very Limiteds can be had for £15-£20 very EASILY. Of coure they all start adding up pretty fast but I’d call £15 a fair price for a Very Limited Eunice Gayson in From Russia With Love.

For 50thAnniversary I think it would be cool to see:
- 50 auto cards for the 50th anniversary (Heroes & Villains had 60+)
- At least 1 signer from each Bond film (the original objective with the 40th set)
- All autos 40th style cards (in reference to RA’s first Bond set/celebrating having the Bond licence 10 years)

That said, I don’t think I could afford what I have just decribed! Especially if Brosnan and Craig are both in this release on 40th cards. Plus you’ve got to keep the full-bleed collectors happy, which isn’t a bad thing as the inclusion of those cards means I would have to spend less which is always a good thing. So says the girlfriend anyway.

As for Madsen... didn’t really mind the red ink, a bit of variation to spice things up. Still I’ll cross my fingers for blue on 40th cards (in boxes) as I certainly don’t have enough points for a reward version.

cardinalfan13 – Now that is a good update! Some very nice cards there. Its getting harder and harder to get the ones from the 40th Expansion set and Lois Chiles was always a bit tough. Jealous your Sean Bean has a nicer signature than mine! How many cards are you up to now? The other day I had a check through your album at the start of this great thread you got going but your Bond cards seem to have dissappeared.

wolfie – So you got your Chiles in the end eh? Wink Thumb Up Does that mean you finished off Women in Motion at long last? I completely agree with you on Madsen’s terrible signature – I didn’t think it was possible for his sig on his Die Another Day cards to get any worse, but alas, I was wrong. I think Daniel Benzali takes the cake though. Shake Head

I finally scored the last 2 cards for my full-bleeds collection, the two difficult ones were the hard-to-find Famke and Maud Adams.

Can't wait for them to arrive, they weren't cheap that's for sure.. I just priced up my full-bleeds set.. that a total of around £4800 for all the cards.. ouch.. oh well, I'd rather spend the money on cards than wait till the government devalues money so much it's not worth the paper it's printed on.. oh no wait a second.. too late..

I saw those cards you're talking about drofdarb. Looks like that seller is selling off quite a collection.

For a brief moment I took leave of my senses and half contemplated picking up the Janssen myself, but thought "do I really need it when I have her other full bleed?" and gave it miss.

I wouldn't call it cheap but you certainly got if for a fair price. They were topping £380 back in '06!
