Laurel and Hardy Cards (CMA)
Are there any Laurel and Hardy fans out there ? Back in the late 1990s/early 2000s, CMA did at least 2 card sets, which Jeff Allendar lists on his website.

But the Laurel and Hardy UK Fan Club maintains a website which, over the years, has listed a whole bunch of other card sets by CMA which seemingly exist:

Lobby Card Set (72+bonus)
Candid Collection (72)
Poster Art Collection (72)
Rare and Press Collection (72)
Babes at War
L&H and the Automobile
Movie Storyboard Cards (2 sets of 27)

I have about a half dozen mini-sets of cards, which were sold in the 2000s, and called "promo" sets.

In addition, there is/was a particular Ebay seller, apparently the Fan Club store, which was selling at least 13 different 9 card sets exclusive to the Club. All of these were produced by CMA.

Wish someone had a comprehensive list as to what exists !

I have 4 albums full of L&H cards amongst which are at least 120 of these 9 card sets. I will need to look through them to check my listing that I have made as I don't think I updated with the last lot of cards that were issued. I won't be able to do that until tomorrow at the earliest.

regards

John

John,

120 different 9 card sets ? Yikes !

I chatted with Jeff Allendar about these back in 2015. He saw a website which listed about 13 diff sets of 9 cards each, but there were no pictures, and he had no idea what existed.

He told me that he noticed that if you joined the Fan Club for $ 30 a year there was apparently access to the images.

I have looked through my cards and I have found 123 different 9 card sets issued by the Laurel and Hardy magazine via their website. These do not include any cards that are classed as bonus sets to the card sets you mentioned. In addition before I list these 9 card sets I can clarify that the promo cards mentioned on page 83 of PCE 2008 issued by the L&H Magazine promote the sets that you mentioned i.e.

I wouldn't appear in any card set that would have me as a chase card. Big Grin

Groucho once said something like, "I wouldn't join any club that would have me as member."

Yeah that's the one, but Groucho was very clever with his jokes, and it had a double meaning. The Marx brothers were Jewish and at that time many of the wealthy clubs and organization got away with barring Jews from being members. It was his way of sticking it to them. Big Grin
