I was driving down the interstate when I needed gas today, so I stopped in a small town. While fueling up I spotted a small antique store down the street. It had an blow-up Spider-man in front of it. So, I had to check it out. Once inside it was the standard stuff-old cast iron cooking stuff, old bottles, junk and then I saw them... a dozen or so sealed boxes of Non-sports cards: Milestone, Deathmate, Deathwatch 2000, SNL, Vertigo, punisher, shadowhawk, Frazetta II, Star Trek Gaming cards, and a few others. All for 5.00 a box. The old man could not work the credit card machine and I only had about 8 dollars in cash so I went with the Vertigo box(did not get the Death Skydisc but it was fun to open). I will be back to claim a few more. It was fun to see all of those old boxes again.

A great find Barrett! I have found a few like this over the years, most recently in the Mall the Philly is held at. Lots of old packs of these 90's cards for 50 cents or 25 cents.
I once found a stack of Combat, James Bond Thunderball, Weirdos, and King Kong singles for 25 cents each in an antique shop - bought 'em all. |

The SNL cards had autographs although they were pretty rare. I think the Phil Hartman and Chris Farley would be the best to find since they have both sadly passed away. Deathwatch 2000 have autographs (8,500!) from comics legend Neal Adams. Frazetta II's are a great value at the price. And if the Shadowhawk is the later one from 1994 (as opposed to the 1992 Comic Images set), that box is worth getting, too, since that's where the popular Simpson Shadowbart superchase card is found (at a rate of 1 per 12 boxes).
Good find, and good luck if you buy any more of the boxes! |
