Watched the Kevin James movie "Here Comes the Boom" tonight with the family. A bunch of the cast for it have signed cards, but they are MMA cards.

I think this is every Bond girl from the Brosnan era.

Very nice-looking arrangement.

I know you specified Bond girls, but I wouldn't mind seeing a Judi Dench card in there. Besides Brosnan, she was the other big constant throughout his series. Maybe Samantha Bond too, but she mattered less.

She did....more than I want to pay. Wink Izabella Scorupco also has which I may eventually pick one up.

Samantha is in my Moneypenny group. I have a couple different Judi Dench cards.....thought it might be a little creepy calling her a Bond Girl. Big Grin

Oh she most definitely wasn't a Bond girl. Wink But I regard Dench's M as interictal to the Bond saga and she started with Brosnan before Craig.

In fact, one of the reasons why I detested Craig's Bond so much is because he failed all the time. He let so many people that were personally important to him die. Skyfall was pretty good until that stupid, selfish ending that ultimately ended Dench's reign. M should have been allowed to retire, but Craig's Bond lost another one, and that negated the whole purpose of the film for me.

So I think she belongs with Brosnan. Smile

I thought it was a great ending. How daft would it have been if nobody on Bonds side had died whilst all around everyone else did

This is off topic, but in a way it does effect cards on franchise titles when important characters are peeled off along the way, and those bigger signers/actors disappear from the new products.

I would rather see a bad movie with what I think is a good ending, than a great movie with what I think is a bad ending. I also think beloved fictional characters don't have to die for emotional impact unless you want a tearjerker and go in knowing that it is. They didn't have to kill Luke, Han and Leia one at a time to make the last 3 Star Wars films. They didn't have to kill Ironman. It was a choice that the audience either liked or didn't like. The more films are made in a franchise, the more arcs created, the farther you get away from previous happy endings. Just look how Alien3 carelessly wiped out the great ending of Aliens.

I enjoyed "Skyfall" up to the ending, not just because M died, but because it ruined the whole premise for me. Silva was the best villain in the Craig era and Silva won. Everything he did was to get revenge on M. That he died first didn't matter since he didn't care about it.

Bond took full and sole responsibility to protect M and she died. He failed, when it's a fictional actioner and they could have just walked away triumphant. Dench's M was the only M ever killed in the series just so Craig got to cry, but Bond comes out a loser. That's my gripe with "Skyfall", which I liked the best out of all films in Craig's series. Let's not even mention "No Time to Die".

Just my opinions, plenty of people will disagree I'm sure. Smile

Although I think a death in the world of Bond is probably slightly more permanent, when it comes to the scifi and comic franchises I define death as Superman vol 2 number 75. A death just gives everyone a break from the character for awhile until "they" decide to bring him/her back.

Plus you make a cr@p load of money doing it. Big Grin

Not to mention in film land when an actor says they are done with a character the options for what's next? are limited.

As far as on screen chemistry I enjoyed watching Craig and Dench MUCH more than Craig and Fiennes.

Yeah, but I think for certain roles the audience is more locked into the character than necessarily the actor. Look at how many Spidermans and Batmans we've had. It may have something to do with costumes, but did they really have to kill Ironman because RDJ didn't want to do Tony Stark anymore? Very few roles are really owned by one actor.

I was thinking about which other Bonds you could build a project of Bond girls on and I think you are kind of limited to Roger Moore. There are plenty of signed cards for ladies that appeared with Moore, but the others are tough.

You can get lots of Connery women, but Connery would be missing without the one cut signature. Lazenby and Dalton didn't do enough films for a big display and you can't get Dalton anyway.

As for Craig, his Bond didn't play around much and, except for Lea Seydoux, Olga Kurylenko and maybe Gemma Arterton, I'm not sure he was associated with any big Bond girls who signed. Eva Green and Monica Belluci and Ana de Arnas are missing. The rest I really can't remember off hand, but Craig's Bond was boring in that department.

But a Moore project would work, although I think the Brosnan would still be the better one. You'd have a hard time finding a Bach.

Even if there were one, I'm not sure I'd want it in my collection for fear the cards next to it would catch VD. (Does a slab block syphilis germs?)

Regarding Connery, I think that you could do a display of the leading ladies from his 6 official films.

The only one who didn't sign was Claudine Auger from "Thunderball", and unfortunately she passed away about 2-3 years ago.

But Ursula Andress, Daniela Bianchi, Honor Blackman, Mie Hama, Jill St.John, and most of the supporting Bond women from his movies signed Rittenhouse cards.

If Harrison Ford wasn't going to be involved in another Star Wars movie, what is a filmmaker going to do? You either kill off the character or you come up with a story that he's doing something important on another planet or something like that. I thought killing off Luke was stupid and I thought not having a scene with everyone together was stupid. Why would you blow the chance to give a longtime audience what it wanted especially after all those years?

With that said, it didn't bother me in the same way when M died. You have an ex-agent dedicated to get revenge on her and he even invades what should be her secure location. Bond gets her out but he also puts M and him in jeopardy by allowing him to figure out where they are holed up. At that point in the flow of the movie, all bets are off, we have to consider that there could be a sad outcome for her and Bond. Weren't there rumors that Craig wasn't going to do another one at that time too?

When Silva sees that she is seriously wounded, he doesn't enjoy it even though his whole goal was revenge. It's one thing to see your outcome successful in the planning stages; it's another when you come up on your quarry to find it injured and suffering because he could relate to that. Things didn't go the way he wanted.

Yeah, they could have ended the movie with M just hurt (it's great that she had her vest!), but if Judi Dench wasn't going to do another movie, does she just retire due to her injuries? I guess they could've done it that way but there's no drama there. Bond always survives...

It's true M was never in peril in previous movies. He was always in the office or on leave. The filmmakers did something different in a Bond movie which some fans were going to like or dislike.

At some point in the series, maybe by the 90's, it wouldn't be logical that the same individual working in the 60's could be James Bond in the 21st century (just not up to all that jumping) so the audience was okay with different actors playing him across time. It was tougher for Roger Moore because it was the first hand-off in the relay. There were Bond fans back then that hated him because he didn't look like or act like Sean Connery did. My own stepdad said, "He isn't James Bond. He's The Saint." By the 90's, three actors had played him and the new guy, Pierce Brosnan, looked younger. The audience didn't mind especially since he had been up for the role before so he was familiar.

Oh yeah, I have the majority of them from all the different Bonds just too many for a single display. Pretty sure I have every one of Craig as well, unfortunately a couple of serious autograph cards from his era never materialized. Can only hope Ana de Armas gets one.

Bach and Andress are two I don't have and current prices are keeping me away.

I can't find what happened to Lola Larson but I always thought it would be sweet to have a Bambi and Thumper set. Smile

In terms of the "lead" Bond women from the 25 official films, who has never signed cards ?

Claudine Auger (Thunderball)
Diana Rigg (OHMSS)
Carole Bouquet (For Your Eyes Only)
Eva Green (Casino Royale)

Did everyone else sign ?

Auger and Rigg are now deceased. Rigg did sign some of the Avengers cards done by Unstoppable, circa 2011/2012 which are very rare, but she never signed for Bond
