Recently I purchased a set of Plant of the Apes Behind the Scenes & Charlton Heston Collection cards from an Ebay seller that seems to have an endless supply of these sets. When I got them, I noticed something strange. The Heston set had the typical gold foil edition numbering indicating it was legitimate (also, it was sealed in plastic wrap). The Behind the Scenes cards were not sealed and the edition numbering wasn't foil, but was "hand numbered".

I'm just wondering if this is a reproduction set. I guess I'm a bit suspicious of getting #2 of 333. Anyone have any info?

I know what is in the set, what I'm asking about is if anyone knows if the Behind the Scenes set I got is legitimate or not. I'm a little suspect of the hand numbering of the edition number.

I just emailed Rittenhouse. Hopefully they can clear things up for me.

I think Raj's link has clarified the matter effectively.

There were two POTA sets, printed in different years so its entirely possible two different methods were used to number them.

Besides, Rittenhouse often hand number certain limited edition sets - I don't see why it would make these cards suspect.

The Planet of the Apes "Behind the Scenes" sets were hand-numbered by Steve Charendoff.

Thanks to all who helped solve this "mystery". Also, a big thanks to Steve Charendoff who emailed me to let me know it was he who hand numbered the set!

Now, if only I can find a Planet of the Apes Binder to house the set in!

Not for people familiar with Rittenhouse. He's been hand numbering stuff since waaaay back. My favorite being the archives set in their oversized Women of Trek cards. 18 cards limited to 999 each, 4 cards limited to 500 each. Man hand numbered all but one of the 18 cards himself. I like the way he makes his 7's.
