well, if someone is trying to sell me something, i would not want to pay to be promoted to. it is generally accepted that promotion comes at the expense of those doing the promoting. as a gallery owner, i can attest that people would not buy a flier for an upcoming exhibition. you give them away for free to entice people to come and purchase the more expensive work. isn't that the point?

so i would say it is a rule, albeit unwritten, that promos should be free. at least at first.

So when you say, "at least at first", does that mean until you get your hands on it?

haha Big Grin no, i am a buyer (and have spent a decent amount of money on promos for that matter). i just mean i understand that after the initial offering that they might gain in value. we have become a society that prizes promotional materials after a certain amount of time has passed. just look at how much old coca cola or disney memorabilia goes for. but those items did not come at a premium when they were first offered. they were free.

Fair enough. So isn't this really a case of where we are in the pecking order of things? Inkworks gave these promo items to the dealers for free and the dealers then exercised their right to do whatever they pleased with these cards.

Yes but if they ONLY give them to the dealers(and from what I've seen some got a LOT more then others). That makes this card NO better then the Multi Case x files auto that people are up in arms about.

If the dealers choose to sell them on ebay instead of giving them as promotional items to their loyal customers you would think they at least had the decency to pass some savings on to their customers Roll Eyes

So if a you by 10 cases of X files from a dealer they still have the right to sell the duel autograph incentive card on ebay instead of to you.. It's the collectors who keep the dealers in business and since Inkworks doesn't sell directly to customers we are out of luck when it comes to Promos and incentive cards and just have to suck it up and accept we have to pay for them Confused

If I was buying 10 Cases of X-Files and the Dealer refused to give me the incentive cards I wouldn't buy from them - surely NOBODY would buy that amount and not aske for the incentives

Let me say upfront that I don't collect promo cards and frankly see no value in them whatsoever, but I lot of collectors go after them and I can respect that. However, no way can you equate a promo card with a multi-case incentive. Incentives that usually come free to the dealers because of the case purchases are often special autographs or costume/prop cards that are highly desirable and readily sold to collectors.

Promo cards generally wind up in the trash, at least the kind I am familar with do. I have no idea why this particular card is being sold for $100, but then I have no idea why people spend $35 to buy a tee shirt because it has the designer's logo or name written on it.

When they pay me to advertise for them I'll wear one. Big Grin That's a bit off the point, but promos are advertisements, nothing more and nothing else.
