I was trying to complete my Wizard of Oz series 1 master set. I needed the Dorothy dress card, which there were only 8 made. The seller on ebay had it up for $2,500 "buy it now" or best offer. After going back and forth for about 3 weeks, I succumbed to finally owning it for $1,275.00 delivered.

A lot of seller shoot for the moon with the BIN price, just in case someone bites. In most cases they know the offers will be significantly less but it only takes someone clicking that BIN once to make it worth it and you can still fall back on the offers if nobody bites.

It's a common Bay tactic since the best offer system was launched. The company I work for will list furniture that they aim to sell for between £210-250 at £350 BIN + Best Offer. Common offers are around the £200 area, and a counter offer seals the deal in most cases as people see a huge reduction when in fact it's just an illusion. You can tell the same sales logic applies to lots of different product.

It's no different than in "real" world stores where they put things on sale after a huge mark up. My fav is the stores that put up "Going Out of Business" signs and the signs have been up so long that they've faded from the elements. Big Grin Razz

$400 for a DS9 Memories From the Future Rick Berman A19 Card.

If I hadn't had an otherwise-complete set, I wouldn't have bothered, but it had to be done.

$150 for a variant red armor Iron Man incentive costume card. A fantastic prop from a fantastic film.

Looking for a Lost plane prop card. Somehow I think the price on that might beat-out the Iron Man card.

Funny this would come up again as I just raised my record high last week.

400 for a Star Wars Galaxy 2 P3 floating Yoda promo.

It's a card that I have lusted over for years and never thought I'd own as they always went for over 1000 bucks on the rare occasion they did pop up. Serendipity brought it to me during a really bad economy, a horribly worded listing that managed to miss all of the key search tags and a surprise windfall on a long forgotten box of Babylon 5 CCG promos to a very nice fellow in Norway which resulted in me basically getting the card for free since the 400 I paid was all found money.

After all these years of hunting I can't believe this card is finally mine!

Now its US$345 for a Edward James Olmos 6 case Incentive.

You know its funny. When I first got back into trading last year I thought $200 was just a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a card. Now $200 seems like nothing and you see many cards going for over $300. CRAZYSmile

Since I don't collect mainstream cards anymore- just promos and product premiums- back when I did, the most I ever paid was $50 for the Slayer Eagle sticker from the Brockum Rock cards set. However, I DID buy all 3 the seller had.
