I know this is off topic but,if someone can give me a VALID ( not a conventional or smart a** comment) i ll except it

its a hot day,a 3 year old boy wakes up and says,''its hot outside,i think i ll go out undressed this morning.
his sister, who is also 3 years old wakes up and says,''it's hot today, but i'm going out fully clothered.

why ?

I'd be careful how you continue here, it seems as though you find it completely OK to collect Benchwarmers and Vampirella cards and yet find these Olympics cards offensive?
EDIT: Also Playboy cards are fine apparently but not Olympics?

You seem to be completely contradicting yourself here and it is putting you in a very bad light!

You say you would have no problem with shirtless women walking about but clearly have a massive problem with men, keep your comments to yourself before it really gets out of hand.

to be fair,we already covered this,if there was a set for the ladies (or whoever) called sexy undressed men,i would not object, but i know what they are,and would not buy them.

i agree,i have a terrible feeling i ll get no more swappies

Just a quick post with a, I hope, valid point : most of the cards you shown are swimmers and they are represented like this because they compete in these outfits and women are not.

Cheif, you say you sliced up the cards and are going to send them to Topps to voice your discontent.

So - you paid good money for these, then destroyed your own cards... guess you showed Topps!

I stand by these cards - they are tasteful, well done cards, I like the set and design, and think Topps has done a fine job.

don,use another term other than tasteful, because that as angered me more than any other fall in line comment

the dupree card (which was the medal card i destroyed) is not a tasteful image.

I've just a quick look at a few of these cards on Ebay and then also done a search for some examples of Benchwarmer and Vampirella cards.

The Olympic ones show men not wearing very much, and the Benchwarmer & Vampirella show women not wearing very much.

The difference is that the Benchwarmer and Vampirella cards are meant to be suggestive. They are designed to be revealing. They are designed, I would argue, to titillate; yet there's no argument against them.

They're not my thing, so I don't buy them. Others do, and I have no problem with that.

The Olympic cards are not designed to titillate. They are designed to show the American Olympians doing what they aim to do in London this summer - compete and win. As such, the athletes are pictured in their normal outfits, their normal poses, doing just that.

There's nothing wrong with these images. If there were, there would be something equally wrong with Vampirella, Benchwarmer, Red Sonja, WWE and many other sets.

I'm not missing your point. You are saying that if you purchased a box of Shrek you would not expect to find playboy style cards in it.

Where i'm missing your point is that you have purchased a box of Olympics athletes and found inside pictures of athletes dressed exactly how they would be doing their sport but for some reason you seem surprised by this.

why does everyone keep missing the point ?

you buy benchwarmer etc you know what you are buying, olympic cards i expected one or two topless male swimmers but there are over 15,to me this is beyond the limit, some could have been in team tracksuit (like the women are) some could have been in the water even, but to have so many undressed is over the top,i find this offensive and i have a right to,the other sets mentioned, you know exactly what your getting, this set has an agenda, which included a policy of no risque female shots,a deliberate double standard ploy.

why are there so many swimmers anyway ? where are usa tennis players for example ?

I opened some of these, they contained cards with the images that I expected and I didn't find anything offensive about it. I think it is a well done set.

At the risk of repeating myself, these images were licensed and approved by the USA Olympic Committee. They may appear a bit on the arrogant side, but they are not suggestive.

And as to why so many swimmers, the male swimmers are the rock stars of the Summer Games. Tennis players, who are all pros at their sport, have their own cards and protect their images. I hope that is a valid answer.

I don't think that anyone is missing your point. You are clearly offended by male athletes being depicted as they are within the confines of their sport...in a product whose packaging features a topless Michael Phelps.

I was trying to be kind with my earlier post when I said that your comments were "borderline homophobic" because it seems as the "border" was clearly crossed. I would guess that the way that you presented some of your opinions would be considered as offensive to a number of our members who can appreciate the male form.

Do you petition the television stations that carry wrestling programs, letting them know that you are dissatisfied with their airing of "pornography" as well?

yes and if tomorrow it was decided that male swimmers should be completely naked to enhance their performance while females are going to start wearing fur coats you would all play along with it ? my offence as to do with male athletes practically naked at the diving pool and others wearing tight hugging leggings that clearly show the impression of all downstairs, while the only complaints are what female beach volleyball players wear,my disgust is the double standard of what males or females can wear, how you get anti gay from that ? is puzzling,we are moving into a naked man dressed woman world and everyone is playing along with it,again the point is,these cards have gone too far with the undressed males,if you don t see it,your brainwashed,if there was an image of a female in state of undress and a lady complained, she would get 100% backing, because modern man has to fall in line.

and for the last time, there didn t have to be 15 undressed men depicted,it is a definate statement.

Without conducting a survey of millions of people I'll state with confidence that your opposing of these cards is in the very very minority. I've asked many people I know ( family and friends) what they think of these cards and they are fine with what they see. I think you'd be hard pressed to find others that think male swimmers are dressed wrong. They swim in public areas that way, they compete in the Olympics in front of large crowds and also shown on national TV, so there's got to be an overwhelming percentage that sees it as ok.

There's nothing wrong with voicing your opinion and I wouldn't begin to try to change it but that also doesn't mean I have to agree with your point of view.

but it's not about the male form,it's about sport ? you should be looking at an athlete ?

i only came out fighting because i was attacked, even though i am right about the number of naked men images chosen on the cards

but i get mocked because men dont have the right to complain about same sex nudity, women would be well within their rights, but a man is an hypocrite with a screw loose.

I do see where you are coming from, but my understanding of the western world is that as long as a man has pants on he is not thought of as naked. Whereas women on the other hand, if they walked around topless they would be classed as naked, but I think that has more to do with everybody sexualising breasts too much. Which in my opinion is more sexist than men going topless.

Because I don't live in the states, I'm not sure what it is you are referring to about the female volleyball players, I'm guessing it is that they aren't wearing enough? The players here in Australia wear little crop tops and swim pants from what I remember of the last Olympics, and I don't remember anyone complaining here.
One thing though, I do know from what happened here in Australia with one of our star swimmers, Ian Thorpe, you may have heard of him? He won gold at the Olympics quite a few times. He used to wear this swim suit that looked like a seal suit, he wore it because it made him more streamlined in the pool, he could swim faster and it was decided that it gave him an unfair advantage over other 'naked' competitors that couldn't afford his very expensive suit. He was then forced to wear something similar to what those swimmers are wearing in those scanned cards and he didn't do as well. Smile

My opinion is that I would expect photos like that in an Olympic trading card set, they are not posing they are either celebrating their achievements or from what it looks like waiting for something. I don't see anything at all sexual about those photos at all, I see men in their uniform really because swimming is their job. But that is just my opinion.

And by the way, I would still be more than happy to trade with you. We all have different views on life, it would be a very boring world if we all thought the same.

Why would 2 topless male cards be more acceptable than 15? They're in this state of "undress" because that's how they look in competitions. These were not poses done like a photo shoot, they all appear to be "action" shots.

I think most people buying an Olympics-based set would expect to see the athletes in their sports attire, just like people buying Playboy expect the models to be in their, uh... un-attire. Wink

Your reasoning sounds like you think Topps snuck these images past an unsuspecting public. I'm having a hard time understanding your reasoning.

You state that it is not about the male form but about the sport...THANK YOU! That is what we have been trying to point out since you started this silly thread. The cards accurately depict men as they appear IN THEIR SPORT.

You keep spouting off about "nudity", yet there is not one single NAKED person in this set. If you think otherwise, you might want to check a dictionary.

I watch the games every 4 years and there is absolutely nothing in these cards that aren't in keeping what you would see while watching the sport.
