I'm a huge fan of DC Cosmic Cards (1991/92 Impel) and am looking for some more info.

Was hoping somebody out there knows the answers to these questions:
- Does anybody know where to find or have and willing to part with Previews Magazine- Jan 1990?
- Was there a third hobby or factory box that differs from the standard box and Numbered Factory Set that you can get your hands on? I ask cuz I have a box that differs from the standard box and Factory Set and am wondering if it is a clever custom job or real.
- Does a 6-up promo panel actually exist?
- Does anybody have the Promo Cello-Pack, opened or unopened that they would be willing to part with?
- What Dealer Incentives were there, if any?
- If you buy a case of DC Cosmic Cards, do you get the poster-size oversized checklist in it, or do I wait until another shows up on ebay?

Note: The question numbers have changed, and now some of the answers below will seem weird. All is well Smile

I literally have the uber-set going. Lots of rare stuff, but always looking to complete it.

I appreciate any info that comes my way! Thanks!

Yay, another DC collector - we'll take over the world yet. Looks like you know more than I do about this set.

1. No idea - but back issues (with their table of contents) are still listed in the NSU store if there are copies available. Is vol 2, issue 4 the right one?

2. I assume you know it was in Previews, but I don't know the issue.

3. Never seen one but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I have the same factory box that is currently on eBay.

4. Never seen one and never talked to anybody who has one (and I've talked to various specialist DC card collectors). It's been on my search list for over 10 years. Having said that, some of these 90s sets had promos that were very small distribution because they were made for sales staff displays etc. The promo forum here has some people with a great deal of expertise on obscure 90s promos.

5. I have the promo pack but not willing to part with it. I assume you know the cards are actually slight different with their numbers. I can send scans if you are interested.

6. no idea

7. What poster do you mean? I have a letter sized checklist (can send a scan). In my notes, I have this marked as a possible mail in, but it could have come from a case. I will have a look at it and see if there's any other info.

Question of my own:

8. Is there a version of the holograms that are individually numbered? The holograms are unnumbered but with the checklist on the back. I have in my notes that there is a numbered version as well, but I have never seen these either and don't know why I have this in my notes.

Tangent- THANK YOU!!!
Will check the issue number and did not know that the panel was in ""Previews," but that will help immensely.
As for the checklist, I might be mistaken about the actual size. About a year ago, I got my hands on an uncut sheet of the Holograms. Shortly after killing my bank account on that, the same seller listed an uncut sheet with an oversized checklist. It was about the same size as the uncut sheet, which should put it at 8x11.
I would love scans! I have 2 of the 5 by random eBay chance, but would love scans.
As for numbered Holograms, I have not seen numbered holograms ever. Heard, or read, like you that there are 2 variations, but have never seen them, and when I ask on eBay, the seller doesn't know what I am talking about usually.
Thanks for the info! Very helpful!!

Your email address is not in your profile. Mine is, so send me an email and I will email you some scans.

8x11 is the size I meant.

The numbered holograms are the bane of my existence. That's one of the reasons I bought a factory box, I thought the different box types might have the differently numbered holograms if they exist. Since both box types I have seen only have the unnumbered, I am inclined to think the numbered don't exist.

I have some uncut holos from Cosmic Teams, but not Cosmic Cards.

Another card you may not have in your list - there's an error version of #44 that is missing the trivia question.

Sorry about the lack of email addy. Changing that now.
Uncut Holos for Cosmic Teams sound cool. I have a promo poster/checklist for that line, and an unopened pack & SkyCaps "Superman is Dead" Combo pack.
I agree about the Numbered Holos for Cosmic Cards- I don't wanna crack the third box that I have, but I'm even more tempted now.
I have the error card. And I have an error card that is signed. Might not be a real auto, but it's still signed Smile

So I caved and opened my wierd 3rd box. There wasn't a single Hologram card present, #44 was the error version, and there were cardboard spacers that matched the cardboard that made up the box. The pictures on the box are a happy medium between pro & ameteur: And some of the artwork is arranged slightly different, but not in an ameteurish way.
Thinking it was a dealer incentive box, except for the lack of holograms.
I dunno. It's weird.

Very weird, but at least you know now. The fact is was the error version supports your idea of some sort of dealer promotion as presumably the error cards was early because it would have been corrected later.

Awesome! Thank you! Now to just track one down. Didn't seem like there was a back-issue ordering page on their site, so it should be fun.

***UPDATE***
Since originally posting this, I have learned more about the set and have acquired other pieces for the set that I didn't even know could exist.
That Said, here is the update:

1) Does anybody have a Previews Magazine dated January 1990? Can't seem to find it.
2) Can somebody provide a description of the cover for the Jan. '90 Previews Magazine? Either a verbal description or a picture would be much appreciated.
3) I learned of a Foil Box and a Foil Case that was very breifly offered in an Advance Comics issue preceeding the set. Seemed like it was a dealer incentive. Has anybody seen one of these? Does anybody have either the Foil Box or Foil Case? If so, I would LOVE pictures of each/either.
4) Has anybody seen the 6-Up Promo Panel for DC Cosmic Cards? If so, and has it, can you provide pictures?
5)I am no longer looking for the Promo Cello-Pack, as I just this month got my hands on 2 of them. And I must confess/warn, I am opening one of them, so whoever is keeping count, subtract 1 from the population Smile

If anybody has the items listed above, I would love pictures. I will also offer to buy them off of you, but for now, would love pictures so that I can separate the Hunt from the Wild Goose Chase Smile

I have a poster with all the PREVIEWS magazine covers on it, and January 1990 shows Bill Griffith's ZIPPY THE PINHEAD on it. It promotes a book offered that month from Fantagraphics called the "Best Comics of the Decade".
I do have that book (signed by Matt Groening with his old pre-Simpsons signature), but not the issue of PREVIEWS. Those are pretty hard to find because not a lot of people saved them, but at least you know what it looks like.
Good luck!

@ Chrillips
Hi there
I have been following this thread with enough interest to cause me to dip into my oversized promos to see just what DC stuff I have. I didn't hold much hope as I don't actually collect oversized promos but (typical of most collectors) I never part with ANYTHING unless I have to.
My search revealed (to my utter surprise) the following:
A 1989 8xup containing
53 Lex Luther - Great Villians
61 Hawk - Great Heroes
69 Crisis - Great moments in comics
77 Metamorho - Great Heroes
85 Forever People - Great Teams
100 Gorilla Grodd - Great Villains
108 Batman - Great moments in Comics
116 Batman - Great Teams

Then I have a 4-up called the Previews File. This contains:
DC-1 Superboy
DC-2 Supergirl
DC-3 Eradicator
DC-4 Steel

Then there is a postcard sized panel showing Batman fighting another Batman like figure.
And another DC postcard featuring Sandman.
A set of 5 punch-out Skycaps featuring all DC characters.
A small page of DC heads from Wizard
A 4-up promo for Firepower
Finally I have S1 Prototype The Adventures of Batman & Robin.This is a 1995 8-up.

I confess to having no idea if any of this stuff is of any value or interest to anyone but scans are available to those needing more info.

Just to let you know, that first 8 card panel is actually a backing board from a 3-pack of comics. There were two series - 1987 and 1989.
