I have never seen one.
Has anyone ever seen it, or have a picture of it? I am curious to see what it looks like. I heard it was very rare. Does anyone know how many were produced? 50? 100? |

I don't know the size of the complete print run, but the sketch cards were supposedly 1:4320 packs, or 1:135 boxes.

According to the sketch card I pulled, there were 500 sketch cards made for this release. Defective Comics Front

Wow, for being 500 sketch cards that's the first one I've ever seen! Could there really be that many out there?
That would mean 1:4320 packs or 1:135 boxes, the production would have to be 67,500 boxes!! ____________________ I'm looking for colored "Robots the Movie" sketch cards by Inkworks. http://www.comicartfans.com/Ga...etail.asp?GCat=25744 |

I thought there were less than that. |

In the 1990's the card companies really let the presses run. Skybox for instance, had several different non-sports releases that had a print run of hundreds of thousands boxes, so it's not too unusual for the time. And even though the company that made the Defective Comics card set was a smaller one, they also made comic books, so they were able to sell their cards to the comic shops that handled their comics. Like card companies in the 1990's, the were a whole lot more comic book shops, too. |

I can attest to that, having bought several unopened boxes of various series from that era at Dollar stores. A friend of mine opened a ton of Defective Comics hunting for chase. The hoarder that I am, I gladly accepted a gift of all of his common cards. He was going to throw them out! Uhg! If anyone wants a common card set of Defective Comics (FREE) then please let me know and I'll bring them to the next Philly Show or local show. If you want to fly in from California this weekend for the express purpose of receiving a set, that's fine too. ____________________ Bill D. AKA: Promo Czar (self-appointed) |

I have the following Limited Edition "Golden Foil" Cards : GF8,GF33,GF41. I would like a full set of the base cards. I only have a few cards and any sets would be appreciated. Thanks.

Like Bill said, the chase was what was "worthwhile." I picked up a case of 48 factory boxed base sets a while back for $12 ... I could bring some to give out at a show too!
And well, there may have been 500 sketches made, but that doesn't mean they were all inserted in packs. Or, the odds stated on the packs might not have been correct. I haven't seen one mentioned, but if they had one type of factory set, they might have planned for a "deluxe" set that had a sketch card. I find it hard to believe they made 67,500 boxes! |

Update: I got in touch with the person who opened up tons of this and these are his recollections: "The reason I kept on buying Defective Comic cases was to pull the chases (obviously... there has to be a reason, you know?). Cases were cheap so I wanted to complete my gold panels (one per box) and my auto set (one per case). Sketches were rarer, 1 in every 10 cases... I broke down probably 15 cases and never pulled a sketch... but completed my panel set. " Also, if anyone is going to the Shriners in Wilmington MA next weekend for the GBSCC Show let me know and I'll keep my promise on a free base set, compliments of me and my anonymous friend. I will be scooting down from work (Dover NH) on Friday but I can leave your set with either Tony Caruso or 'Bev & Byrna' who should be setup at the show all weekend (with their permission of course). This is really a great sports card/memorabilia show with more than a smathering of non-sports to be found when you least expect it and, of course, from the few dealers who specialize or dabble in non-sports. I would rate this show as worthy of a 2-hour drive, one way. In comparison, I rate Philly as an 8-10 (with stops) ____________________ Bill D. AKA: Promo Czar (self-appointed) |

Oh No, Mr.Bill, I used to live in Dover,N.H. Projects and at the old Kimble Hotel. Now a Chinese Restraunt, near the theater. Any extra sets I would like to have. I still have the gold cards from my earlier post (if wanted). Thanks, G.

I said "connect" not "hook up". By the way, I assume that that Chinese Restaurant in Dover was Moe's Asia? I don't remember if it is still there. The one in Portsmouth is gone. I dropped in on the one at the point on the Spalding last night for their take-out buffet. ____________________ Bill D. AKA: Promo Czar (self-appointed) |
