The Penguins have been dominating, they have great young talent, and Fleury has been outstanding. Should be a great final, against either the Wings or Stars, I think the Pens match up well against both teams. Good luck!

Even though I am a longtime Redwings fan, I am going to cheer for the Penguins.

The Red Wings will be the Pens best test so far. Theyve got the best defence Pittsburgh will have seen in the playoffs, by far.
I really dont care who wins (I think the Pens will & that they'll also repeat next year) I'm just going to watch it & enjoy. I really like watching Malkin play. Hes the best all around player in the Cup, & 1 of the top 5 in the league.

wouldn't hold breath for next year, 12 of the starters are free agents including hossa and malone and Fleury is an unrestricted free agent. Not to mention Staal and Malkin are free agents next year. This may be the one shot for this team..

Hossa will be gone. Malone is replacable. They'll still have Malkin & Staal & thats what matters. They'll resign Fleury.

Crosby about 9 million
Malkin will get at least 8
Staal will get 5 or 6
Fleury will get 6 or 7

That's 28 or 30 million for 4 guys and the cap is only 55 million.. I don't see them keeping all 4 but I hope they keep Staal as he is my favorite.. (I would love to see them let hossa go and sign Jagr for about 1/3 of what hossa will get).. But I would also like to see them keep Malkin over Crosby if they choose to let one go..

I like your reasoning Jim. Pittsburgh can keep Malkin and Crosby can come to Toronto. Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Those numbers are no doubt close.
But theres ways of working contracts to make the cap work. Backloading 1, & going frontheavy with another.
Also players taking less than their market value to stay with a team. Its rare, but it does happen.

Long term, I think Malkin is the safer bet. Crosby is too little. And Toronto needs all the help it can get. Wink

Well, game one is in the books. Didnt want to say anything till then, but after watching that game, Right now i would have to say the team of my youth, the redwings, are positioned to take this in 5. They just looked DOMINANT out there. They controled the flow of the game, and without going to a horrible NJ trap, they were able to to disrupt the penguins all night in passing and keep them out of good scoring lanes. They held the puck most of the night (the wings). Their powerplay just looked like a machine. And, the truth of it is, Pittsburg is a physically soft team. While the wings arent exactly the flyers of old, they have enough of a physical presence to impose their will on the pens. The real problem for the pens is defensemen. Gonchar and Whitney dont exactly stack up to Kronwall, Lidstrom, and rafalski. Heck, our role player defensemen are Guys like chris chelios! I think what brian engblom said was correct, you gotta lose it one time, to learn how to win it. I think the pens will have their day, but its not this day. Wings in 5.
GO WINGS!

p.s. what is that, the 6th disallowed goal against the wings now? That has to be an NHL record. what kills me, is that at least 2 of thoes goals were called back for hand passes that never happened, and goaltender interference that supposedly occured outside the crease when the goalie ran into the back of holmstrom. I know they supposedly got away with one against dallas in game one, but jeez, how many legit goals do you have to take away to even that supposedly blown call up? ANd no ones talking about how many bad calls are going against them as well.

yay, 2nd game in the books. total domination. Some crying about obstruction and holding from the pens, yet oddly silent on the sucker punch attempted career ender on Franzen by the Pens late in the game...heres to hoping for more of the same in game 3!

nope, and whats worse, is they lost after having done so much whinning, they actually were able to get phantom calls all night. I mean, they lost with a 2-1 power play advantage, and a 5 on 3 two minute powerplay down one goal , with 8 mins left in the game. I mean, if thats not the refs trying to hand you a chance, i dont know what is. What kills me, is they kept calling the wings and their staff, cheaters. God i hate that. They kept saying they were these goon obstructers who work the refs all the time and 'know how to hide' their cheating...and then literally the Pens went on to do EXACTLY THAT REPEATEDLY OVER THE NEXT 2 GAMES!!!! What really told me whats up, is when hal gil yet again decided he wanted to end some players careers by pitchforking holmstrom to the ice from behind into the net. He injures his lower back and spine, causes a massive groin muscle injury...and as holmstroms limping back to the bench, having yet AGAIN not gotten a VERY DESERVED penalty called on pittsburg for that cheap violent play...Pittsburg Forward Talbot skates up to a broken up holmstrom, and insinuates he is somehow "faking it again for a call" like they did in the post game a few days earlier "what, you saying that hurt you?!!" was what he yelled at him on the bench...gee talbot, no , it felt fine. The fact that he had to go to the hospital after the game, missed the rest of that game, and didnt play in the next and wont play again...thats just becouse he felt SO GOOD after that play, that he decided he wanted to spend his evenings outdoors, away from the rink....God, i would love for kronwall to catch crosby in a clean open ice hit with his head down...just crush that pretty boy whiner, only since its detroit and not pittsburg, they would do it legally within the rules...Oh well, ranting. sorry. Go wings, win it on home ice baby, give the fans that.

p.s. every game this year, has been a sellout, and every playoff game has been as well, confirmed by the illitchs. the "empty seats" they see, are about 1 percent of seats, and they are all bought corporate seats. thats an invented story too.
