HARRISBURG, Pa. – A retired police chief said he was robbed by "probably the dumbest criminal in Pennsylvania," at a police officers' convention on Friday morning. John Comparetto said as he came out of a stall in the men's room, a man pointed a gun in his face and demanded money. There were 300 narcotics officers from Pennsylvania and Ohio at the gathering.

Comparetto gave up his money and cell phone. But when the man fled, Comparetto and some colleagues chased him. They arrested a 19-year-old man as he was trying to leave in a taxi.

The suspect is also awaiting trial on four previous robbery charges.

The suspect was arraigned and taken to Dauphin County Prison. When a reporter asked the suspect for comment as he was led out of court, he said, "I'm smooth."

Had 1 a few years ago, here in my city. There was an open house and an intoxicated woman asked me what was it about. I told her that a sub shop opened up. She went in and asked for an italian grinder. Than she started yelling and swearing for all to hear, the only problem was it was a police sub station that opened up. She got arrested. In Lawrence, Ma. (2 cities from me) a guy went into a chinese food restraunt and wanted change for a quarter. When the worker opened the till, the guy grabbed money and started to run away. The worker yelled robbery and 4 men chased the robber. Turned out the 4 men were off duty police in regular clothes. He didnot get far and was arrested.

Matthew Peverada was arrested in Portland, Maine, in December and charged with attempting to rob Dipietro's Market. His first attempt, at about 4 p.m., was rebuffed, but he announced that he'd be back at 11 p.m., and that they'd better have some money for him. He returned, and police were waiting. [Portland Press-Herald, 12-29-08]

In Phoenix in January, Shawn Holden, 20, ran from his car rather than be detained at a traffic stop for running a red light, and officers pursued him on foot. As police were wandering around looking for Holden, a truck driver walked by, got into his truck, and drove off, running over the prostrate body of Holden, who had been hiding underneath. He was treated at a hospital and arrested. [Arizona Republic, 1-21-09]

Alleged bank robber Feliks Goldshtein was arrested after a brief chase by police, who were summoned to National City Bank in Stow, Ohio, in January. Employees may have been tipped off because Goldshtein, wearing a ski mask, had waited patiently in a teller's line and only displayed a gun when he finally reached the counter. [ABC News-AP, 1-9-09]

Romeo Montillano, 40, who was being sought in the December robbery of a Kmart in Chula Vista, Calif., pleasantly surprised the cops when they learned that a "Romeo Montillano" had registered for the upcoming police officers' exam on Feb. 25. Indeed, he showed up, and he was arrested. [Seattle Post-Intelligencer-AP, 3-1-09]

This is an "oldy but goody" and perhaps one of my all-time favorites...lol

A man accused of leaving an El Lago restaurant without paying his tab was arrested a short time later on a trespassing charge by the Lakeview Police Department.

According to a police report, an employee at Gabacho's Mexican Restaurant in the 4400 block of NASA Parkway called police to report the theft.

When officers responded, they learned that the man was seen walking toward a vacant building on the other side of the road after leaving the restaurant.

Police checked the area and found an open door in the back of the building. An officer went inside and called out, "Marco."

The man's name was not Marco, detective Tim Dohr said. Instead, "the officer was trying to inject some humor into the situation."

Police found the suspect after he responded, "Polo."

The restaurant manager declined to press charges for the theft.

Police charged the man with criminal trespass and took him to the Harris County Jail.

Motorist Christopher Cadenhead, 39, was stopped in Osceola County, Fla., in January for having an expired tag. Inside his car, police found 200 pounds of marijuana. [WOFL-TV (Orlando), 1-22-09]

Jose Melendez, 54, and his wife and daughter were stopped by Douglas County, Neb., deputies in January after their RV was driving on the shoulder of Interstate 80. Cover-story discrepancies among the three occupants as to where they were headed and which "relatives" they were "visiting" aroused a deputy's suspicion, and a search of the vehicle revealed $2.5 million worth of cocaine under a floorboard. In March, two men were seen on a backyard surveillance camera in St. Petersburg, Fla., attempting a home break-in during the day when no one was home. According to the police report, one of the men assumed a football stance, then ran the length of the yard and rammed the back door. However, the latch held, and the impact sent the man backward, leaving him on the ground, writhing in pain. The collision also triggered an alarm, and the men escaped before police arrived. [WFTS-TV (Tampa), 4-1-09]

Two adults and three teenagers were arrested in Waterville, Maine, in March and charged with arson, with all the evidence needed consisting of a video the five made, describing their crime, crafted with theme music and cast-and-crew credits. [Morning Sentinel (Waterville), 4-1-09]

FARMINGTON, Conn. - Connecticut police booked a 29-year-old woman for drunken driving, and then charged her with the same crime less than three hours later when they spotted her behind the wheel again.

Farmington police said they arrested Elsa Veisor of South Windsor shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday. They say her blood-alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit. Police charged her with operating under the influence, confiscated her license and suspended her driving privileges for 24 hours.

Authorities released her on bond and thought she was getting a ride from a friend, but another officer pulled her over shortly before 4 a.m., about a half-mile from where she was first arrested.

Veisor is due in court next week. Phone messages were left Tuesday at her home and office.

NEW YORK, April 22 (UPI) -- Police in New York state said they have arrested a woman accused of kicking her daughters, ages 10 and 12, out of the car for fighting.

Investigators said Madlyn Primoff, 45, of Scarsdale, forced the two girls to exit her car Sunday in downtown White Plains and continued driving, the White Plains Journal News reported Wednesday.

The 12-year-old girl ran after the vehicle and was apparently let back in after catching up, police said. However, the 10-year-old was left behind and was brought to White Plains police by a passerby.

The mother called police a short time later to report the girl missing and was arrested when she arrived with her husband at White Plains police headquarters.

She was charged with a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child.

In April, police in Copley Township, Ohio, were called to a restaurant where Erik Salmons, 39, was allegedly intoxicated and annoying customers. Officers declined to arrest him but did insist that he call someone for a ride home, and Salmons complied. However, at home, Salmons decided that he was insulted at being thought of as intoxicated and so drove himself to the police station and demanded a breathalyzer test, which of course he failed, and he was arrested. While not exactly a "stupid criminal", I thought this story was stupid enough to qualify.

BERLIN – German police said an elderly man was so annoyed at hearing the same serenade over and over that he called authorities to report his neighbors — only to discover the culprit was a musical greeting card on his own windowsill. Police said Tuesday the 82-year-old from Goslar in central Germany told officers he was sick of the music, which would come at irregular intervals and at all hours.

Upon further investigation, police found the musical greeting card on his windowsill, where occasional breezes opened the card just enough to play an irritating tune.

Police said the retiree was happy to find out his neighbors weren't trying to annoy him.

MONROE, La. — If you're going to buy something with a forged cashier's check, don't misspell "cashier's" or use an FBI office as your shipping address. Monroe police said they arrested 44-year-old man after he did both. He was held Friday on two counts of forgery and as a fugitive from justice in Georgia, where he is accused of a similar scheme.

The FBI called police Thursday after a Minnesota cell phone distributor called the bureau.

The company had sent 50 phones to 300 Washington Street in Monroe, only to discover its $2,359.45 payment was a "cahier's check".

FBI agents saw the suspect wave down a delivery truck driver outside the bureau later Thursday, stopped the transaction and waited for police.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police didn't have to dust for fingerprints to find this suspect — they just rifled through the wallet he left behind at the scene. Albert Vincent Perkins was charged with robbing First Federal Bank in Kansas City on Thursday. Police said he walked into the bank, handed the teller a plastic bag and ordered her to give him all of the $100 bills. Then he walked out of the bank — but left his wallet sitting on the counter.

The U.S. attorney's office said the teller and a customer in the bank identified the photo on the driver's license and another photo in the wallet as the robber.

Perkins was arrested Thursday night. Police say he took about $3,100.

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y., May 7 (UPI) -- Authorities in New York state said a man searching his pockets for a summons in a courtroom dropped a bag of marijuana onto an officer's shoe.

Nassau County District Attorney spokesman Eric Phillips said Desmond Kelly, 28, was being arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead, N.Y., on a motor vehicle violation when the judge asked Kelley if he had the original traffic ticket, the New York Post reported Thursday.

Phillips said Kelly "reached into his pocket and took out the ticket. At that time, a small bag of marijuana fell out and landed on top of the shoe of a court officer."

The spokesman said the officer shouted "'You're under arrest!' and the audience in court gasped."

Kelly was immediately arraigned on the drug possession charge.

Police: Conn. woman bitten after 'bite me' remark
Posted: May 28, 2009 4:32 AM CDT
MERIDEN, Conn. (AP) - An analyst at the Connecticut Police Academy says a co-worker responded literally to her "bite me" remark and chomped on her.

Former Waterbury police Capt. Francis Woodruff was charged Tuesday with disorderly conduct and released on a promise to appear in court. He's accused of biting academy license and applications analyst Rochelle Wyler on April 24.

A police arrest report says Wyler had teeth marks and bruising on the back of her left arm.

Wyler's complaint alleges Woodruff was annoying her by calling her a clerk. She says she responded with "bite me" - and he did.

Woodruff also is a training coordinator with the 130-member police department in Meriden, just south of Hartford. He says he was joking around.
