Perhaps some of the UK football fans on Card Talk can explain what's going on over there? We have seen the video of "fans" breaching the stadium and cancelling the game, but the business about the MU owners and leagues wasn't well explained at all. Mob protests are getting too common now, but it would be good to know the reason.

The owners of the big 6 clubs in the league tried to break away and form their own league with the big clubs in Europe. They did this without telling even the managers and players of the teams never mind the fans.

When it was found out all hell broke loose and it was quashed but the fans will not let it drop and want the owners out, hence mass protests.

The owners of Manchester United have been unpopular with the fans of the club since they bought it in 2005. The Glazer family took a cash-rich club and loaded it with debt to buy it.
The European Super League fiasco, which included 6 English clubs and 6 other European clubs, has emboldened the fans of Man Utd in their protests. The ones who broke into Old Trafford, though, were a minority. The majority of protesters stayed outside.

And thanks for using Football and not the S word Smile Bizarrely, the whole secret Super League formation has actually brought rival fans together in Agreement that nobody wants a "private" league that excludes everyone else. As Raj says it was a small minority who caused any trouble and almost took away the real protest. A lot of Man Utd fans stopped going when the Glazer Family took over and formed a new football club called FC United of Manchester.

Yes, now I can understand the problem from two points of view. An elite league would exclude the other teams and MU fans would be watching lots of games on TV, not able to afford to follow them around Europe. Thanks.

Sadly the protests come far too late, the FA have been so weak in the last 20 years or more that the game has been taken over by the owners of the clubs. The premier league and the champions league are already closed shops and the new changes will just make it worse.
When you let countrys own clubs then you create this crazy situation.

Of course the man utd protests are more to do with their current owners than anything else.
