So in the US goverment yesterday with all going on they introduced legistlation that would make it illegal to make human/animal hybrids in a lab Roll Eyes It was introduced by about 20 republicans including Mccain..

They said it's important to pass this since they are already doing this in the UK and they don't want American Scientists doing it.. So are they really trying to clone human/animal mixes in the UK?? (that would explain wolfie Big Grin) or did they just watch a late night viewing of The island of dr Moreau

PS this isn't a political discussion I was just wondering if they are really trying this over there Wave

I remember in one instance that a human ear was grown on the back of a mouse with a view to grafting it to a person (the ear, Wolfie, not the mouse). Maybe this is the kind of thing they are thinking of.

Nope and to be honest I didn't think in this day and age scientist would push the envelope on ethical experimentation. They should be barred from such naziesque scientific tactics.

Congress contemplates bill banning weird science
Charlie Butts - OneNewsNow - 7/14/2009 4:30:00 AM
A bill has been introduced in the U.S. Senate to ban human-animal hybrid research.

Senators Sam Brownback (R-Kansas) and Mary Landrieu (D-Louisiana) have introduced in Congress the Human-Animal Hybrid Prohibition Act of 2009 (S. 1435). With 20 co-sponsors of the measure thus far, Landrieu is the only Democrat among that group.

Dr. David Prentice of the Family Research Council tells OneNewsNow many people will fight against the bill. "There are already scientists who are planning and starting experiments to combine human and animal hybrid embryos for experiment," he notes.

The bill does not affect use of animals or humans in legitimate research, but would ban creation in the laboratory of part-human, part-animal creatures that would blur the line between the species.

Dr. Prentice says scientists that favor hybrid research believe the experiments will cure disease and be important to medical research, but he says even some scientists involved in embryonic stem-cell research say it will result in nothing useful.

"There's one scientist who wants to make a mouse with a human brain, or others who want to grow human eggs or sperm in mice and rats for experiments," Prentice adds.

He fears the experiments will make humans less human and claims proponents are trying to "play God." "We need to channel science into valid and ethical research, and it's certainly not these human-animal hybrids," Prentice concludes.

Prentice still supports adult stem-cell research, which has proven useful in treating more than 70 diseases and medical conditions.

Scientists should just be allowed to go for it and try anything they like. Somewhere along the way they may discover something that would be really useful that they would never have found out had they not done the experiments.

Behind closed doors they probably try all sorts of things anyway, you just don't get to know about it.

We don't need to make human/animal hybrids. Just clone Wolfie.

Sad to say there are labs all over the world doing all sorts of crazy things with the excuse that they may discover something useful to mankind, I would assume just by accident.

I'm not a big fan of these things. Scientists should try curing a few diseases instead of breeding mice that glow in the dark. Roll Eyes
