Some of the sentiments I've seen here I strongly disagree with, and a few I strongly agree with. What I will say, though, is that the health care system in this country is so broken if we were to start to try to fix it now, it would take at least 50 years to make things markedly better. And let's not even begin with society's perceptions of women and women being 'fat' at size 8. It makes you really want to just bang you head on the wall.

But back to the original post, you really can't legislate waist size. There are too many reasons one person could be overweight - stress, endocrine system, depression, addiction, plain ol' genetics, it really doesn't matter. Being overweight is a symptom of a larger issue, and to demonize a whole(and increasing) population of people is madness. The whole food industry has to be overhauled, we have to get all the 'junk' out of our processed foods for starters. But that's not going to happen anytime soon. Frown

The endocrine system is an integrated system of small organs that involve the release of extracellular signaling molecules known as hormones. The endocrine system is instrumental in regulating metabolism, growth, development and puberty, tissue function, and also plays a part in determining mood.[1] The field of medicine that deals with disorders of endocrine glands is endocrinology,

I hate it when governments have to get involved with people and everyday life.

Governments are too big now and everybody around the world are losing their freedoms slowly.

I hope you are joking with your list Zhamlau... But to be honest with you, they way it is going, it will soon be like that all over the world.

It is not obese people that are costing the health care systems, it is the people that are on welfare and illegal immigrants, that get freebies from the government.

And who is paying for that the taxpayer.
Ahh yes, those terrible people who are on welfare. I guess not one of them is valid, they are all freeloaders. As for those lousy illegal immigrants they're just coming across our border like a tidal wave. They just can't get enough of those jobs as farm laborers, picking crops in 90 degree heat, what a deal. Oh, and let's not forget all those fantastic slaughter house jobs here in sunny North Carolina that no self respecting American wants. Shake Head

That is not the point... There are people on welfare that abuse the system. Having babies and no job, no care in the world as long as they get the monthly check and the more babies the more money...

I am not saying everyone on welfare is evil, but when you see people who can work and do not because of government help, it sickens me.

I lost my job and I did not sit around and collect unemployment, I went out and found another job. It pays significantly less than what I was making, but it is a job and I can't complain.

No way I am going to be a slave to the government, I already pay enough taxes.

And as far as the illegal immigrants, I understand that they work the crappy jobs, but like I stated early, if there are people on welfare who can work and do not work, they should work those jobs, instead of the tax payers paying the way for them.

I read in the newspaper the other day, that a local government wants to give illegal immigrants money to go to college... not a loan or something. When I was going to school, I paid for it. I worked while at school, my parents also helped, but they are working class people and it gets me sick to see the government giving away money.

My point is nothing should be given to you, you have to earn it and when my grandparents came over to the USA, they did it legally.

My grandfather came over with my uncle and they had to get jobs and prove that they could provide for a family before the rest of the family could come over.

Today everyone just comes over and the government hands them money it is totally ridiculous.

Hey it's your government that is giving all this money to these people. If you don't like it kick em out and get a new government.

Just don't expect the new government to be any diffrent from the one you have. Shake Head

I know that... Both parties suck and it is time for a real change.

That is why I support Ron Paul.

He wants to get rid of a lot of these programs and give the American people back their freedoms.

It will always be the same, the government is trying to keep everyone down and they do not want people to have better lives.

Where I live, they are raising taxes again and they tell us that we are in tough financial times. Meanwhile, the mayor and all of the high ranking city officials are getting raises.

That makes sense to me!!!

You have to love the Government!!!

Hey, lets not make this any more political that it already is. As the home page says for this forum, "no political, religious, or other 'hot button' threads/discussion, please."
