I hope that I am not stretching the term "Promo" here. These cards do promote a political cause and I am by no means endorsing that cause. If you are like minded with this group then these cards are for you. If you are not then you can "protest" by ordering them anyway and preventing them from getting into the hands of their intended audience. It's a win-win. Smile

Here is their write-up.

The Center for Constitutional Rights has partnered with CREDO Action to
distribute Torture Team trading cards to start the conversation about
responsibility for torture at the highest levels. Each card features a
single high-level official and has information about the way in which he or
she paved the way for torture.

You can get one pack of ten cards for free. Click here to check it out and
get the Torture Team cards before they run out.

I ordered mine several days ago as well. As Joey says, if they are neat, I might order the full set.

Right-schmight and Left-schemft, free promo cards are free promo cards! Smile

I considered paying the extra for the other 10 cards, but I want to take a look at these first. Hopefully, the full sets will still be available once we get a look at the 10 free cards, just in case anyone wants to "upgrade".

Anyway they sound interesting. Waiting for these will be torture. Twak

Thanks for the heads up on this, Bill. Thumb Up

I see the organization already will be sending out about 10,000 sets (as of Sunday afternoon).

you know....just saying "this aint an endorsement"...then going on to promote a very partisan product designed for propaganda purposes (say that 5 times fast)...I don’t know...that doesn't seem consistent...just saying "NSU doesn’t endorse this....now here’s how you can get this GREAT new product you should ALL WANT"...that seems off to me...I know on some level these are trading cards, but come on...I mean, imagine the Taliban produced a large full color set of "official Al Qaeda" trading cards, and was offering free promos if you request them online...would you give them the same free press and endorsement (which is what this entire string is in effect)?

There have to be some limits...just because something is marked as a "trading card" does not mean it should be promoted and endorsed or advertised by the editors/mods of NSU this way.

This is a non-sports card forum and these are non-sports cards, whatever their subject matter. Regarding these cards specifically, only censorship born of political partisanship would prevent them being discussed here.

Merely allowing a thread in no way indicates endorsement or worse, promotion of a particular point of view. Despite that, the suggestion seems to be that a moderator stop this discussion because not every single person agrees with the premise of these cards.

Whoever doesn't want these cards simply should not order them. Further, if anyone out there is so disturbed by the charges these cards levy against the individuals they depict, I would truly like to see them produce a similar card set to rebut the charges. And by all means, the manufacturer of such a set should let interested parties know they are available right here, on the good ol' NSU Forum. I would like a set of those cards as well, especially if the rebuttal set is also free. (I am above, all things, cheap).

I don't remember (and nor should there have been if there were) objections to discussions of the Sarah Palin foil card Breygent made last year from a portrait they commissioned of her by the artist Steven Miller. It was a flattering drawing of the highly photogenic candidate and was available while she was running for vice-president. Did that promote her candidacy? Was it fair to Obama, or I guess, more accurately Joe Biden, who did not have a similar card produced by the manufacturer?

Who cares if it was fair? The Palin card was a non-sports card and as such, was perfectly at home in this forum.

As for that "Al-Qaeda" card set (made perhaps by Taliban Flipcards or perhaps Taliban Archives), they sound interesting, too. Where would I get a set of those? I think I would be able to look at those cards and not, I don't know, take up their cause as my own.

Should anyone ask, those of us requesting this admittedly odd themed card set are not "crazed card collectors".

Rather we are "professionals" who are simply utilizing "enhanced collectible paper rectangle gathering techniques". Big Grin

the only reason I'm not ordering any is because I dont want my name to be put in mailing lists for left-wing (or right for that matter) propaganda garbage. Paranoia!

Fair enough. Me, i draw the line. Like, if the government of Iran offered free "holocaust denier" promos through the mail, I wouldnt order them because i find that very offensive. But hey, to each their own.
