24 Season 4! One of television's best comes to the cover of Non-Sport Update. Plus, if you like television sets like 24, have we got an issue for you! We'll detail the new series of Lost, Battlestar Galactica, and Smallville card series. Look for our feature on cut signature cards and a different take on Marilyn Monroe. Promos inside the Dec/Jan issue include Smallville Season 5 (Inkworks), Battlestar Galactica Season 2 (Rittenhouse), and an exclusive 24 Season 4 (Artbox) promo.

A feature on cut signature and a different take on Marilyn Monroe?

Hi Jademalibouroad:

It's actually two articles, of course. One will be all about cut signature cards. Our Editor-in-Chief, Alan Biegel, is writing it and it's very involved -- all about the cut signature cards that have been produced. Will be a great read, if I do say so myself.

The Marilyn article is about various Marilyn Monroe cards. Haven't read it yet myself so I do not know what angle our writer pursued. She be a good one too, though.

Thanks.

Thanks Harris, sounds like great reads. Is there any new Marilyn set in the works?

You know what's funny, the first ever cards I got were Marilyn cards from sports time. After a few boxes I searched for a checklist and ended up buying a magazine called NSU Surf

Never heard of it. Is it any good? Big Grin

Seriously though, No -- there are no new Marilyn cards (that I know of). This article is one on old sets as we like to include at least one article per issue covering older material.

And speaking of Marilyn and checklists, and "older cards" and history, I've been contacted twice by hotels asking about the Marilyn Private Collection cards -- first the Tobay Beach Resort, and later Hotel Bel Air. I sent scans and offered ideas on how they could mount and matte subsets of the cards in frames at key spots in the hotels. Think of it, "See? The room / alcove / lobby you're in right now is where Marilyn scratched her seven-year itch."

I should check back with them and find out whether they did something clever; it seemed like a real natural to me. If so, and somebody is in their neighborhood, there might even be a story there ...
