Hi All:

Who participated in Open That Box Day and contributed to the Open That Box Day thread? Just about all of you who did will see your names in Charlie Novinskie's Open That Box Day article in the new issue of NSU. One hitch though --- the article ran very long so we are running half of the submissions in the upcoming issue and the other half in an article that will run before Open That Box Day 2007.

Did you make this issue? You'll have to get the new issue to find out.

Also, anyone who submitted pictures will see one of 'em in the new issue.

So be sure to get a copy of the new issue to see your fellow Card Talk members in action. Charlie did a wonderful job with the article.

Harris

Does that mean you have finally lost your life-long aversion to buying boxes then ? Wink

Hey I got my copy of NSU today at Tower and showed my friend the article and then I noticed that something was wrong....

I am not a she......yes...Cordelia_ChaseFan is a male. There might have to be a retraction.....
I should have clearly stated it early on so it is kinda my fault, but thought I would clarify the point here. Oh and I only got the one autograph in the VMars box: it was Teddy Dunn as Duncan Kane.

Anyway, I liked the article a lot and I thank you for the mention Smile

Thanks,
Val(entine)

You know, once again the article underscored just what is wrong with the non-sport hobby today. Almost every single entry was "I want chase cards! Gimme chase cards!" One even said "I got nothing, I'm stuck with a box of cruddy cards".

Does anyone know just how sad that sounds?

Can't imagine why not, that's what almost every single person in the Box Talkers section said, including the entry by Over_Worked_Mom who said, and I quote: "I just ended up with a cruddy box of cards". Virtually every single entry talks about what chase cards they got, how they didn't get enough chase cards, etc.

You know, there was a point in time when the whole point of opening a pack of cards wasn't to get the chase cards. Now, the base set is pretty much disposable. That's sad.

Brian...

Sounds like you have a beef with someone or something. My story said nothing about chase cards. In fact, the one chase card we pulled was the one card my son was afraid of. Lighten up.

Although my segment in the article did focus on the chase cards I found in my Charmed Conversations box, I did mention in the "Open That Box! Day Submissions" thread that I also managed to make two (2) complete base sets and finish-up a partial base set, which personally made me quite happy.

I believe due to space limitations, the article focused on the treasured inserts everyone found and that's understandable. Perhaps this is why the box breakdowns in the article focused so much on the inserts and not so much on the base cards.

Personally I thought the article was well-written. Judging from the article and what I have read on the Card Talk Forum, OTBD (with the assistance of dealers and manufacturers) brought together collectors worldwide and many were able to share the hobby with their friends and family on this day. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed this event.

Keep the chase coming. I enjoy buying sets of common cards at rock-bottom prices. Wink

Hello, if I sent a picture and it was not in this issue, does that mean I sent it wrong? Or could it make it into the second half of the article? Thanks.
