Hi All:

We currently are in production of this year's popular variant issue for Comic Con International. The cover for the issue will feature the cast of Joss Whedon's new movie, Serenity, and Don Norton's feature story will shed light on the new movie and card series from Inkworks.

Similar to the three previous Comic Con variant issues, Inkworks will be handling the bulk of the distribution. Copies will be on sale at the Inkworks exhibit at Comic Con as well as through some of their retailers. We'll be holding a few copies back for those of you who are not able to make the show. We'd prefer that you buy the issue from Inkworks or a retailer at the show but realize that this is not in the cards for many of you. So that end, we'll be pre-selling our small quantity beginning late next week through the NSU Store. Copies will not ship until Comic Con has ended in mid-July.

The two versions of the Aug/Sep issue will be identical inside. The differences, however, are the covers and promotional cards. The variant issue will have the special Serenity cover and one exclusive FOIL serenity card available nowhere else. The regular issue has Frankenstein on the cover and four different promotional cards. Only 2005 copies of the variant issue (and promo card) will be available wordwide.

I wanted to give everyone a sneak peak of the beautiful Serenity card that Inkworks has supplied. I hope to post an image of the cover sometime early next week.

Ah, but it IS sort of related in that the creator is the same and the cast have (mostly) been in Buffy or Angel at some point.

Er, actually no. There are still previous variant copies lying unsold in the NSU shop some of which only had about 700 copies made. The variant for the James Bond set last year is still not sold out and if you can't sell Bond then Serenity has got no chance.
I think the variant copies should be much more limited like the buffy 5 one. There were only 777 of these and the magazine and the promo card have increased in price ever since.

I would rather see less copies and have something that is truly limited than see piles of unsold copies in the store.

As the current trend seems to be to release the same amount of promos as indicated by the year.
