I went to the bookstore today and noticed that NSU is sealed. I didn't want to spend $5 just to see if the Phantom Gallery card set (Intrepid-1996) is listed or not. Could anyone tell me if Non-Sport Update lists this set?

Thanks

It's sealed so that the promo cards aren't seperated from the magazine

I figured it was because of the freebies. Smile I was wondering if NSU lists card sets of companies that no longer exist?

Thanks

Yes it does but it does not allways list card sets of companies from countries outside of the USA.

Hi Brett:

Yes, as has been stated, it's in there. Also, if we didn't list cards from companies that no longer exist, the price guide would be a whole lot smaller since there's a good many of them that are no longer in existance (like man of the tobacco producers, and other companies which are just a name now such as Donruss and Fleer). Hmmm..... Big Grin

Also, thanks Hammer and Wolfie for providing the info.

I thought I read somewhere that you did not include some UK sets, so I wasn't sure if you would list Australian sets from defunct companies. Thumb Up

We generally don't. So don't speak too loudly or Bill D., our resident pricing guru, will come around here and wipe it from the guide. Big Grin

So we can start calling Bill "The Mad Wiper"? We thought about "viper," but that kept bringing vindshields to mind.

Space. And not like "1999". Razz Not enough of it. NSU is a magazine, obviously, not a book and there's only so much we can list. We don't list every U.S. release either.

Wolfie should now that by now. I've said it here many times before.

Yes, space is the issue that prevents NSU from being able to list everything. It's a shame, but a reality. Especially with the increasing postal costs each year. But we in the on-line community may be able to help supliment that infomation with our own personal webpages.

I know that Jeff Allender's House of Checklist is a great example:
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/allender/jachlist.htm

There are many others for specific titles under GOOGLE (Like Star Trek or Buffy, or Wacky Packs or Odd Rods or Dinosaurs) Just type in the subject type and "trading card checklist" and many pop up.

I maintain a site that itemizes all the new and old monster card sets, over 50% of which have never shown up in price guides(www.monstercards.org). It gives the title, company, date, a brief description, typical retail price, and a picture link when possible.

I would LOVE to see a similar site that does that sort of thing for UK sets, or overseas sets in general. If someone knows of such a site, please let me know. And if you're thinking of doing such a site, do something that hasn't been done. One reason is because the other information was compiled at great time and expense by those who have published it and it would be unfair to just copy their information (also an illegal breach of copyright). But the other is we want to find out NEW info, not just rehash old news.

I'd also love to see a site that listed boxes and packs. (I'd be sure to link to such sites as well.) Such a site doesn't have to have pictures, although they help a lot. Picture images eat up a lot of server space, but I found free space at tripod and also my aol account provides 10MB or something like that where I store some (as do most personal accounts). So keep that in mind if you take on the project. And also let NSU know, because they print a column about on-line news of note, and it's a great place to announce such a site.

One benift to doing such a site is you meet a lot of good collectors (and traders) who email you and you also find out a lot about unknown items that fly below the general radar net.

Hi BrettDavid Smile

This just might help you out Wink

I just did a quick search on yahoo on the net for:
Phantom Gallery 100 card set (Intrepid-1996)
it sell for $13 to $19

ALSO
If you would like a back issue to look up some cards.
Email me your mailling address and I will send you one of mine.
I read them for the storys and look at the price guide every now and then.
But do not collect them mags at all.

You never know you just might subscribe to the NSU mag if you enjoy the mag.
Me I like to read the storys and find out what is happening in the hobby.

Every one has a different reason for reading the NSU mag.

I got a few different back issues laying around and the prices do not change in the mag that often over all these years.

I will mail you one if you email me your mailing address. Smile

This just might help you also. Smile
To find out what your looking for real fast.
Look up the cards on ebay to see what they are selling for in the real world.
ALSO:
Check all your internet search engins to see if someone else is selling the cards you want to find out about.

I cant post companys that sell card sets here.
But if you email me I can give you some websight to look up your card at.Big Grin

Wow, that's very kind of you to offer up an issue. I think I'm going to pick one up next time I visit the bookstore.
