I don't think anyone commented upon this when it came out, but I have just received my Corcodile Hunter variant cover NSU, and received the Croc Hunter /Philly Show Special #1 card. Nice card, I have to say! If you haven't seen it (and why not - as a loyal NSU reader...) it shows the variant cover on the front, printed onto holofoil. The back has info about the card set.
The front doesn't half do your eyes in! (whoops! Sorry, slipped into colloquialism there!)
I know there has been a range of comments on the variant covers - some like, some don't. Personally, if the covers are nicely done, and the exclusives that the NSU guys put in are also nicely done (as in this case, and in the case of th einfamous Buffy/San Diego issue), then I say, keep putting them out!
Now, Harris, if you could only get a Red Dwarf variant... big grin big grin big grin
Au Res.,
Paul

Rather than do variant cover issues with exclusive promo cards, why not make those exclusive promo cards available to only those who subscribe to NSU? That would encourage more people to become members of our little family here.

To be honest, it does bother me a little that to get exclusive promo cards, I have to buy a second copy of a magazine to which I already subscribe. I think those cards should be included with subscription issues as a type of "thank you" to subscribers and an enticement to non-subscribers.

good idea kenny! I also was kind of irked that I had to buy 2 copies of NSU this past week to get all the promo cards, but I can understand why they do it somewhat... I like all 8 cards (really boils down to about a $1.25 per card) and am going to save the Scorp King copy for my Scorp collection - i havent opened the cover even once. One more thing that irked me a bit, there are 2 contests, but I have to cut the pages to enter, well, I am saving both copies in mint condition, so now I am prob going to buy a 3rd copy to use for pricing and to cut the contests out

A point to remember is that not all subscribers to NSU are mail-order subscribers.
Some folks have a sub through Diamond Previews and pick it up at their local retailers.

Some folks have subs in thru dealers and pick it up at shows...

So when you folks talk about 'rewarding' subscribers (a concept I don't totally agree with anyway) by putting in exclusive promos..there would be a problem getting those exclusives to folks who 'pick up' their subscriptions.

I don't think you HAVE to cut out the entry forms - I'm sure there is something on there which states that you can send in photocopies.

Just checked - bith the Spiderman Filmcardz AND the Dark Angel Official Rules state
quote:
Use this form or a photocopy

So, no damage needs to be caused!

I could argue either side here as far as subscribers are concerned. I would have subscribed
to NSU years ago but living in Canada and the way
are exchange rate is at current i can purchase the
magazine for $44.10 from a local book store for the 6 issues a year.To subscribe it would cost me
$52.80 a year for the same 6 issues,plus $7.35 for
each variant cover?
