I couldn't wait for my subscription copy to arrive, so while at a Borders in Jackson, MS I went to get a copy. I looked and looked, but it wasn't where it should be. Then I remembered it was in the Sport/men's health section last time. So, I went to that section of magazines and there the NSU was, between a Cycling magazine and a bodybuiding magazine.

So, since this is a normal occurance here does this happen elsewhere? What about the Borders stores near you?

I wonder whether this says anything about social life in the U.S. South on Friday nights, but at the same time you were writing that I was at a local Books-a-Million trying to figure out where they had NSU (if they had it).

There, the section is called Sports/Hobby so it would make a little bit more sense. In some places I've seen NSU next to Beckett and Tuff Stuff sports collectibes mags.

Other places I see it in Movies/TV because the cover, like the current ish, might remind the shopkeepers of the Star Wars/Star Trek style mags. Or with comics. Or with Antiques if somebody makes the collecting connection.

If you didn't know anything about the magazine, might you not place it with other magazines that have "Sport" in the title? Big Grin

On a related note ... Every grocery store has a different idea for which section to place tabasco sauce: fruit juices, regional/ethnic, seasonings, etc. That's on topic because (like NSU) it makes life spicier and a lot less boring!

About a year ago, I went looking for an NSU at a newsstand around town (Birmingham AL) and couldn't find one anywhere! Frown

Maybe the reason is explained above. None of our bookstores carried the magazine and I couldn't find one at any of the other stores I shop at - Grocery stores, Wal-Mart, etc.. And this in a town with over 1,000,000 metro population! Mad

I finally broke down and ordered a monthly subscription. However, now that my NSU comes in the mail, the mail lady always manages to mangle my copy every month! Eek

Last month - the 15th annivesary issue - when I got my copy out of the mailbox, the cover was torn off and the front and back covers (as well as several inside pages) were ripped! I almost sent Harris an email and asked for an extra copy! This month - The Star Wars issue - the mail lady managed not to rip any pages, but folded the magazine so violently to fit into my mailbox that the entire issue is permanently creased. Now, I've got a huge ugly white crinkle right across Darth's face! Shake Head

If I had my choice, I would buy off the newsstands to get a "clean" copy of the magazine. But, as I stated above and as others have mentioned, buying off the newsstand is too much of a challenge for me! Confused

Usually, we are not in bookstores on Friday nights. Usually everyone is sitting on the front porch(you know because we still don't have electricity here in the South), drinking moonshine and chewing tabacco. Then when a yankee(we still call you northerners that) comes by we play that little number from the movie 'Deliverance' on our banjos and watch the yankees run!

It's up to each individual store to figure out how to merchandise magazines Frown Y'all might want to let one of the managers know that's it's a hobby (not a sports) magazine.

I've found it in hobbies, in collectibles, and with the Scrye/Wizard/gaming magazines...

Considering that Delaware has at times called itself a Northern AND Southern state, I feel we're always undecided. Wink

BTW, our local Borders has the NSU near the games magazines.
