That NSU isn't as easily available in book stores as some would think, of course. Plenty of people are having problems getting their hands on it, especially through the largest book chains.

From personal experiance i have to agree with this. Harris is looking into it all to see if it can be improved.

Having worked in a Barnes & Noble I can say that each store has stock based on what has sold in the past. While I was ordering the magazines I changed the quantity on various magazines every month based on how many we'd sold the previous month. If we didn't sell it and it wasn't a required title to carry, then I dropped it. Shortly before I left the home office had started to do the magazine orders.

Not all stores carry the same magazines - it's just not possible with the amount of space available.

If you don't have NSU at a local store - ask if it can be ordered. If there's enough requests, most stores will order the magazine (or more copies will be ordered).

Brian:

Are you near Montclair? Cause I know that the Borders there got in the current issue. How about Yorba Linda? Again, I know that the Borders there received the new issue. Also, how about Rancho Mirage, CA? How about Chino? They have them too. How about Tower Records in West Covina?

There are tons of Borders in California who received the current issue (and some B&N stores as well) but those seem to be the closest ones to you. It doesn't seem like Redlands, CA has many other highly populated suburbs close by such as San Diego and LA do.

Those are all far west of me. The Barnes & Nobles that I checked were Redlands and Riverside and Borders in Anaheim and Brea, plus a lot of smaller Waldens and B. Daltons and the like.

I'm not criticizing you or anything, just saying that it isn't as easy to get as a lot of other magazines of similar size. As tialessa said, a lot of stores order what sells, but if they don't carry it to begin with, it's not going to sell and won't be ordered, etc. I've taken to just ordering it through Previews and not worrying about the bookstore route, but who knows how many people don't even know about the hobby because they can't find the magazine on the shelves?

San Bernardino County is the fastest-growing county in the country, last I heard. Seems prudent to start pushing the magazine out here if possible, doesn't it?

Brian:

I am showing that Borders in Riverside got 4 copies of the current Aug/Sep issue. Of course, they might not have put them out or you might not be looking in the correct spot. They are hard to spot sometimes, as has been pointed out here. Also, Tower Records in Anaheim has 5 copies. And finally, the Tower Records in Brea has 5 copies as well.

I hear what you are trying to say but I am telling you that there are copies in your area. At least, our newsstand distributor reports it.

Just as an aside, the newsstand business is not an easy one. I won't go into specifics here (it would be quite a lengthy post!) but it's not as easy as one might think and puts all the burden and risk on the publisher. If you are not Time, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, it's not the easiest game to play.

Couldn't get my golf clubs into the small boat - plus with wolfie banned from leaving the country it's a lot of rowing but I suppose we would have been rowing alot if we had been in the boat together Big Grin

Only found NSU in one comic shop here in the central part of the Show Me state. No luck at B&N, Waldenbooks, or B.Dalton.

It was another collecting magazine that got me interested in the hobby. Happened to see an issue at a bookstore. Bought it, read it, and 100,000 cards later I'm still collecting.

Luv You

Not to sound too snotty but be glad you have a local store! I just word from our printer that the US Postal Office is no longer accepting Standard or Periodical class mail to certain Zip codes in Louisiana and Mississippi. Our own Barobehere resides in on of those Zip codes as does The Mystery Box, the new hobby shop he just opened. The e-mail from my printer says "This action has been taken as a result of severe facility damage, evacuations and other issues resulting from Hurricane Katrina."

I am sorry Wolfie and Tat that you guys are continuing to have trouble with Forbidden Planet. I hope like Wolfie says that things get better with the next issue. We have that scheduled to ship one week from today and it will be a good one! It's the 15-Year Anniversary issue with 4 exclusive promos inside (plus one that's not exclusive).

Harris,
Hopefully the USPS will revise their decision once things improve (as they surely will, though judging by the images that were on the news last night that could take some time)

It still amazes me that my local independent store can get in copies (not only for regular orders) but FP, a largish chain with, presumably, purchasing clout, cannot - yet both are supplied by the same people...
