I usually pick up NSU at the local collectable show, but it completely slipped my mind this month so I went out looking for it. It seems impossible to find anywhere! Barnes & Noble doesn't carry it, Borders, Waldenbooks, little independents... nobody seems to carry NSU, nor have they ever heard of it.

Seems strange that the big bookstores like B&N carry a huge selection of niche magazines, yet don't touch NSU. Don't we have more readers than the "knitting with only green yarn in Smalltown Idaho" people?

Not true, Brian. NSU is carried at many Borders and Barnes & Noble. Maybe not all of them but many if not most.

I will add that you do need to look in the right section. It is not always easy to find. As has been discussed here previously, you might find NSU with comics and comic price guides. You might find it with sci-fi magazines. You might find it with sports card magazines. Or you might find it in hobbies. As stated, not always an easy find but look a little closer and you might find it even though you thought it wasn't there.

Hey, by the way, do you realize that this forum is run by NSU?

What Harris said... it even varies by who's putting out the magazines. I've gone to a B&N and found it one month with the comic stuff, another month with the hobbies. I just look at all the wrapped in plastic magazines until I find it...

Hey, you get it there sometimes.

Did they get the Aug/Sept issue in for you yet?

Hi Harris Wavey

I went in again today and there is no sign of it, they just said like they normally do that it was on order on the computer but Diamond had not sent them one.

This might be a timely moment for you to email your contact. Wink

Tesco, Co-op, William Hills and Ladbrokes. Now if you count the number of shops they have, that is over 5000 shops where you cant get it or NSU magazine.

Hi TAT:

Would you mind please e-mailing me and letting me know which Forbidden Planet store this is? Their exact address, too, if you have it. Otherwise, I can look it up if you can just give me an approximate address/location.

Thanks.

Harris

I have looked in the Watford Borders. They sometimes have it in. The assistant said "Sometimes we get it - Sometimes we don't" and no I couldn't order it Frown

Well, I've looked in four, if you group B&N and Borders together and none of them had it. I asked employees at both and nobody had ever heard of it. One Borders employee said that if they had it, it would be with the sports cards magazines. B&N went and looked it up and said that B&N didn't carry it, although I suppose it could have been just that store.

That's kind of why I asked, you know?

I must admit it is pretty difficult to get a Non Sports Update in the UK and local to me!!

There is a Forbidden Planet in Cardiff, but I have never tried there! At present I am buying via the net with: -

http://www.tradingcard247.com

I would prefer a subscription service from a source in the UK if possible. One day I guess........... It might just happen!!!

I could always just order it through Previews, which is probably what I'll end up doing so I always have it, but even my local comic shop doesn't carry it on their shelves, and they seem to stock a ton of toy/CCG/gaming/anime magazines. Might have to ask why they don't add it to their mix.

What's wrong with subscribing to it directly?

Have done but it is expensive to UK ($60) £45 roughly. If you can find it in a store it's about £4 so half the cost of subscription AND you don't have to pay up front. On a usual UK subscription you save money - but with postage from US it costs extra.

Yea, I figured for you guys it would be too expensive. Shake Head It sucks... I know how it is because I love the British sci-fi mags.

I meant that comment for Brian since subscribing is pretty cheap and goes straight to him.

It's actually cheaper than that. When my store gets my NSU it costs me £3 per issue, so £18 per year.

A subscription is $60 so about double the cost.

I would love to subscibe but you can see the problem.

I might end up doing that, but in general, I try to avoid subscriptions directly because:

a) most magazines are loss leaders and exist solely to sell your information to marketers. I get enough ****.

b) subscriptions, which used to arrive before the magazines were available in stores, are now usually a week or two later. If I can walk into a store and buy it before it shows up in my mail, why subscribe?
